Lyon Village Giant - Bad times ahead

What a ridiculous comment! What about the Giant at Bailey's Crossroads-not a great area but been there 20+ years? And airplane noise is not an issue in Cherrydale, Maywood and Lyon Village.

You’re as clueless as anything can be. Whole Foods is the anchor for that neighborhood and others around it.

Do you even know where the Giant was??? Whole Foods is Clarendon Court House. Giant was Lyon Village almost Cherrydale.

From most of LV, it’s an easy walk to WF or TJ. The crappy Giant is farther away, down the hill, and across a not-so-pedestrian-friendly road.

You clearly are not familiar with the area. Go troll somewhere else.

We are talking about the anchor store at the Lyon Village Shopping Center. I have never heard of an anchor for a neighborhood. It sounded like you were saying the anchor for the LVSC was Whole Foods, fyi. Sure WF and TJ are way more popular than this Soviet era Giant; that’s why it’s closed. But it was the anchor store for THIS shopping center.

Yeah but when squatters take over the empty storefront, it will drive away everyone.

This isn’t the big deal you want it to be. If you had ever actually been to that store you would know that.

So it was already full of squatters?

Why do you think there will be squatters? I’m confused.

Maybe it’s the hobos in clown make up with the handkerchief on a stick bags singing jaunty accordion tunes. They get pretty raucous doing the Hokey Pokey

Squatters and homeless will be looking for another vacant property, we already had this problem and a fire at Key Bridge Marriott.

Nope, YOU are clearly NOT familiar with the area. People go to Giant, MOM's Oraganic, Trader Joe's and WF when they live in Lyon Park - some even go to the Cherrydale Safeway. It depends on what you are buying.

They will continue to live in the wooded area around Rosslyn as they have been for several years. Just run or ride your bike through center of Rosslyn along 66 any spring or summer weekend and you'll see.

You make no sense. They have a much nicer Giant a mile away at Virginia Square. I’m not sure in what universe you could think of LV as a depressed area.

Why is it a surprise given the number of scuzzy apartments still in that area?

Are you talking about these scuzzy apartments? That's where my family lived when I was born....almost 70 years ago. But I've heard they've been renovated!

(Mom used to take my brother and I for walks in this courtyard!)

The Walgreen site used to have a Hot Shoppe with two curb cuts for a drive through. This makes it very valuable and the owner is holding out for top dollar.

The pawn shop and hookah bar will likely sell soon. The Lyon Village apartments were renovated a few years ago and owners won’t sell until improvements depreciated

The Cardinal House condo has serious water problems. That could be a massive buyout and redevelopment because it is a large site.
Lyon Village center is built on Spout Run making underground parking difficult. Probably the last spot to be redeveloped.

The point is that most people avoid shopping there. They mostly go to the shopping center for the other shops.

It’s not the “anchor” in terms of traffic.

You’d know this if you lived in the area.

No, I am stating facts for people that actually live in that area.

I live in LV. Most people shop at WF or maybe TJs or MOM’s. They are all an easy walk. LV is one block from WF, LP is a few blocks over. Giant is down the hill and was a crappy store. You clearly don’t know the area well.

You said Lyon Park, not Lyon Village. Someone who lives in Lyon Park would go to the Giant on Washington Blvd, not the one that closed.

Lyon Village is not one block to Whole Foods or Traders Joe's - there are some areas that are close but not all are one block away. In fact, Whole Foods is a 9 minute walk from the splash park in Lyon's Village.

I’ve been to the Italian Store probably 100 times in the last 20 years and I’ve been to that giant once!

You're too precious. The Giant is still the anchor and drew far more traffic there than anything else.

Eh. The anchor is cvs. One of the few in the area with 24 hour pharmacy.
