Definitely not impossible or rare.

Really? I've literally never seen a case of a mother being taller than her fully grown son unless the son had a disability (sounds like it happened in the case of the poster who is 5'8, above--she refers to DC though) I think it happens with girls and mothers, but not boys.

But 5'10" is tall for a woman. Men in the U.S. are 5'9" on average. If her son gets "short" genes from dad/grandparents, he could well be shorter.

I'm 5'8", but the men in my family are small. My kid is 5'1" at almost 13 and is very distressed about being so much shorter than his mom....I almost wish I could shrink so he wouldn't feel so self-conscious.

Wow. I’m 5-5 and DH IS 6-2.
In 6th grade it was close, but DS was clearly taller than me by 7th grade. Going into 12th grade this year he is prob 6-1 and almost as tall as his dad, but not quite. We hope he’s done. He’s right at the height where it isn’t “the tall guy”. DH likes to say that he feel he is tall enough since he doesn’t have to carry a ball for his job.

Our rising 9th grade DD is 5-10 already.

I have 4 sons; the oldest is 20 and the youngest is 14.
I am about 5'3" and my Dh is just under 6 feet.
Each son surpassed me around 12-13 years old.
So far none of them have surpassed Dh.

DS15 was a late bloomer. He caught up to me (5’5) at 14, and a year later is 5’10 and growing fast. DH is 6’2.

+1 damn straight. LOL

I'm 4'11", and DS is taller than me at 15, thank goodness. I think he surpassed me at 11 or 12? He has not hit his growth spurt yet at 15 (family of late bloomers; he hasn't even hit puberty yet). He's only 5'3" now, but I make sure he knows I'm till his boss

I'm 5'5", DH is 5'11'

DS, almost 17 and a LATE bloomer is now 5'7" He passed me within the last 6 months, finally. The endocrinologist says he'll be around 6 ft based on his scans. No meds, just late to puberty.

That's not a late bloomer

Oh great. I'm the 5'10 poster. Was sincerely hoping DS would be taller than I am. Dad is 6'. KId plays basketball and constantly obsessing over height or lack thereof. Sounds like short genes on the dad's side may come through.

6th grade for both DS and DD. I am 5'3" dad is tall - maybe 6'2"?

Ds is almost 15 and he’s 5”4. I’m 5”0. I don’t think he’ll get much taller.

I posted earlier - my DS is an inch or two shorter than me. So definitely not impossible.

I’m 5’6 and my 10y.o. is 5’5...so he’ll be taller in a few months.

He surpassed me a few months ago right around his 15th birthday. I’m 5ft 4in. His dad is also the same height so we are a short family.

12. His feet surpassed mine at 10. I am 5'4"
