Son is 14, stands about 5'5. I'm 5'10. I suppose it is possible he won't surpass me, but I feel like its very rare if not impossible to see a boy shorter than his mother.
Definitely not impossible or rare.
Really? I've literally never seen a case of a mother being taller than her fully grown son unless the son had a disability (sounds like it happened in the case of the poster who is 5'8, above--she refers to DC though) I think it happens with girls and mothers, but not boys.
But 5'10" is tall for a woman. Men in the U.S. are 5'9" on average. If her son gets "short" genes from dad/grandparents, he could well be shorter.
