I think NK makes it hard to be a fan because she takes so many tortured character roles, or at least roles in projects I'm not interested in seeing (I guess I'm not artsy enough) or she takes small-budget roles that just don't get much play. But the times I've seen her play "relatable" characters, she's amazing (Cold Mountain, Rabbit Hole, Moulan Rouge!, Lion, The Hours). I think people will be pleasantly surprised by her Celeste. Understated and powerful. |
I loved him as Eric but I can't get past the dirtbag in this role. Ruining him for me. |
Out of curiosity, I went back and looked at all their clothes in the various scenes. I have to say, the more I look at the dress Celeste wears in therapy, the more obsessed I'm becoming! It's really lovely and elegant. And I love how they are dressing Madeline. She always looks completely put together when she's out, and cute/comfortable at home. Renata/Laura Dern is soooo skinny, she can wear anything. And Jane just looks average, as she's supposed to. |
Sorry, even violent abusive Perry doesn't ruin Vampire Eric for me. |
|
I'm really enjoying the way all the characters are three dimensional. No one is uniformly awful or good. Even Renata, who I thought was going to be the villain after the first episode, has a warm, nurturing side as well as a cutthroat side. And I felt so bad for Madeline when her daughter decided to go live with Nathan. Her vulnerability was palpable. As for Nathan, I can't stand the actor who plays him. He mumbles everything he says.
I'm wondering if Bonnie, who so far appears to be angelic, will be shown to have a darker side? Perhaps she's the killer?! |
Forgot about Bonnie. She's spot on in her yoga and free-flowing attire. |

Does anyone recognize the location of the coffee shop? My sister and I get deja vu from a place we went to at least a dozen years ago in Capitola, Ca.
The ocean front locations in this series are just spectacular. |
I don't think Capitola is one of the locations. this website details all of the filming locations http://www.atlasofwonders.com/2017/02/big-little-lies-filming-locations.html |
My husband came in during the therapy scene and said she looked like a "frumpy librarian". I did not like that look either. |
| There's an article "The Look a Of Big Little Lies" where the costume designer talks about wardrobe for each of the 5 female leads. For Celeste, he says he kept it beautiful, effortless and in soft colors (and also mentioned wanting to cover up her bruises). The NK therapy dress is by Chloe and the closest one I could find online was $1800. Really interesting article if this sort of thing interests you. |
| I love how NK/Celeste is dressed, but hate the hair. It looks like she's wearing a wig, very heavy and "square" looking. Not a fan. |
It does seem a bit dated but I do think her hair style is in keeping with her wardrobe: understated, effortless elegance and beauty. |
| Episode #4. So good. Nicole Kidman getting even better. David Kelley brought a lot of depth to the characters when he wrote the adaptation. |
|
Scenes to make the Emmy tape:
1. Nicole Kidman in first therapy session 2. Nicole/Reese in the car This series is so well acted. And I just love how the Monterey setting plays its part as well. |

Loved the show last pm. DH watching with me - and even he likes it and said that was the fastest hour to go by!
NK is awesome - she looks amazing in her business attire. |
