If you were a tall child, did you end up becoming a tall adult?

My DS is 17 and was 5'4" in 5th grade and is 6'4" now. So he kept going.

Yes this is me too. I was always really tall, and was 5'7" in elementary school. But then I only grew a little bit more and stopped at 5'8". I'm above average for a woman, but hardly super tall. Many of my friends caught up to me in high school, and the boys kept going.

My 8 year old is top of the charts and a good half a head (so 4-5 inches?) taller than every other girl we know. She's even taller than a same aged friends whose parents are 6'0" and 6'8"! Were you really THAT much taller and ended up average or below average height? When did you hit puberty?

Was your 8 year old always that much taller than all other girls or has she had a growth spurt lately? Also, is there anyone very tall in your family?

When I was in 5th grade there was a girl that was 5’3” and taller than all boys and girls. At 39 she is still 5’3”.

My DH was always average or below average up to middle school, but hit a growth spurt in highschool and he is now 6’2”. I was always average and now I am 5’4”… my niece was always super tall (parents are 6’ and 6’7”) and at 12 she is over 6’.

I was always tall. Our teachers often lined us up by height and I was always at the back of the line with a few of the taller boys. (I'm female.)

I ended up at 5'10.

I was always one of the taller girls until I I got my period and stopped growing at age 12. I have long arms, and the doctors predicted that I would be taller based on that but I’m only 5’2”.

She’s always been tall. Yes, decently tall folks on both sides (DH’s mom was 5’9” and my grandmother was 5’10” back a few generations ago), and most men in the family are a bit over 6’. But nobody is super tall on either side.

I’m guessing she’ll be 5’8” to 5’10” depending on puberty, but these anecdotes always surprise me!

Opposite situation here - I was always short and not predicted to hit 5 feet tall. I'm 5'7", which is the same height as my best friend in middle school, who was the tallest girl in the grade (I was the shortest).

I was about 5'5" at 11 and always one of the tallest girls at that age. I ended up being 5'8"

I was the tallest kid in third grade and never really took off after that 5'2"

There are good statistics out there on this....

No. I was the tallest till I was 12, but topped out at 5’4 while the other girls kept growing. I also got my period earlier than everyone in my class.

My kids were in the 90th% then in middle school were the shortest, now they are 6’2”

Tallest in the class until 7th grade (female). Then everyone's hot past me, and I stayed 5'2".

Son, always the tallest until 6th/7th grade, now an adult at 6 foot, many are taller...

I was always the tallest among girls and 90% of boys until high school when boys started catching up. 5’11 now. My friend in elementary school was close in height to me (and taller than most girls) until 6th grade when she slowed down and topped out around 5’5 or ‘6.

Was always above average. Never the tallest, but always above normal. We're a tall family but nothing abnormal.

My oldest son, however, was like a rocket ship when he was 5-12. Always really significantly taller than everyone else. He was always the center on his basketball teams. For a little while, we wondered if we were looking at a potential 7 footer.

He slowed down around 14. Kept growing but it was more normal. He's 21 now and around 6'3.

All that training as a center was waisted. He's just guard height.

Well you are taller than me. Why do you equate being short to being pathetic? Btw, I was always short and I am still short. That is the one thing I don't find pathetic!
