So this corner where Lyon Village Giant will lay abandoned for like a decade right? That corner has been lackluster — across the street is a hookah bar and pawn shop, and a lame walgreen. The 24 hr CVS, Big Wheel, and Italian Store are gems, and the SBUX does brisk business, but without the Giant it will be desolate.
Is LV and Clarendon becoming less appealing with fewer taking metro and rising crime? Will a developer be willing to invest in another anchor store? |
| What? lol. That giant sucked and was never busy. A cold stone creamery is coming to that shopping center. I hear lidl/aldi type store looking there too. |
| That Giant was in desperate need of a makeover, and Giant probably just decided it wasn't worth it. PP talking about Aldi or Lidl--I could definitely see them being interested. |
| The parking lot has been plenty full. That Giant was terrible and when I go to that shopping center, I get all the other things from the stores that are still there and then drive up the road to the really good Safeway for groceries. |
| Nobody went to LVSC for the Giant. The shopping center will be fine. Hopefully a specialty grocer (Aldi?) will take the space since it’s too small for a full-scale supermarket. |

That Giant was horrible. Zero loss.
It’s a great location. Something will go there. |
| That shopping center will be fine. The real head-scratcher is the Walgreens/pawn shop shopping center across the street. |
| Would be ecstatic about a Trader Joe's, Aldi, or lidl there. But I hope it happens sooner rather than later. |
| If you want to pretend the Giant wasn't the anchor of the Lyon Village center, go ahead, but no one believes you. |
Why is it a surprise given the number of scuzzy apartments still in that area? |
It drew probably 10% of the daily shoppers. It sucked. |
I’ve been to the Italian Store probably 100 times in the last 20 years and I’ve been to that giant once! |
You're too precious. The Giant is still the anchor and drew far more traffic there than anything else. |
| I think the CVS was a draw. Very few have 24/7 access. I recall the Rosslyn and courthouse business execs going there to pickup their prescriptions after work. Also, they would but Starbucks there back in the late 90’s. Even then the Giant was dingy. The bathroom in the Giant was smelly and scary! I had to use it once when on the bike trail behind there. That poor Giant was always going downhill for decades. |
I think it will sit empty and other stores might close. There is already a Trader Joe’s, Safeway, Whole Foods, and Harris Teeter too close to it and why would someone spend the money to fix it up knowing the Langston plan would tear down the whole shopping center. Also, it has been really sketchy over there lately. |
