I fear my DD going off campus and accidentally getting into a bad area without her knowledge. I am more comfortable with Penn (not that she is likely to get in) as I know Philly very well and could educate her on where she can and cannot go. |
Data shows that migrants are responsible for less crime than Americans. I feel pretty confident in guessing the people robbing UofC kids are Americans. |
Anyone who asserts that Penn's campus & area of town is safer than Evanston, Illinois is not telling the truth. Please don't believe this lie as the poster clearly has an agenda to promote U Penn. |
Do your own research. There’s a lot of stats out there. https://www.northwestern.edu/up/facts-and-figures/campus-crime/daily-blotter/ |
| They arrested two teenage boys in Hyde park in connection with several robberies yesterday and charged with felony charges. |

The local news reported that 5 minutes after this girl was robbed, 2 separate students on campus walking on opposite sides of the street were robbed at gunpoint by 4 thugs in a black Infiniti. It sounds like the local gangs and thuggery have figured out that a location of concentrated upper class kids walking around with earbuds in, not paying attention, carrying expensive devices, is easy pickings for the criminally inclined. It reminds me of when the DC crime rings make their annual rounds through the wealthy, safe Fairfax neighborhoods stealing money from unlocked cars. They are just picking the easy victims. |
There are not tent cities in Evanston. There is nary a homeless person begging on the sidewalk. |
+1. This. Word spreads like wildfire in the community, and the hot area is where the perps assume that the college students are "rich". They equate college kids with money (instead of you know, getting an actual job). |
Which illustrates how safe Northwestern's Evanston campus is if you read the police reports: "unsecured building", "medical attention", & "suspicious circumstances". If anyone thinks that Penn's campus and Penn's area of Philly is safer than NU & Evanston, you are either deliberately trying to mislead readers or you have never been to Northwestern & Evanston. |
Sarcasm. Cities in this country are warzones. When your beloved child gets robbed or smoked people need not act surprised. |
But that is what he heard on Fox News 🤔 |
How far from NU campus would a student need to go before getting into a bad area? |
I am not saying Evanston is dangerous, its a great area, I am just saying what if there is a party at u Ch or another part of Chicago--is my kid going to know to say no. When I was 20 I didnt exclusively hang out where my school is. |
It has been decades, and it was Wharton's old building, but one of the reasons I found Penn really skeezy was because there was a panic button in the women's room basement bathroom downstairs from the admissions office. Plus a mirror system for looking around corners in the same bathroom. And, just like NYC at the time, there were barbed wire coils on building entrance awnings on a few nearby buildings. I went somewhere else for my MBA. I'm city smart but I don't like having to have my radar on max alert all the time. |
