Violent crime @ UChicago

Caught on video. Unreal. A student was murdered in a similar broad daylight armed robbery situation a year or so ago.

That's awful- why is that guy just sitting there? If you are not going to intervene- run for help or call 911!

I lived in Chicago for about 10 years. I was in my 20s. I went to college in the South Loop. Chicago is my favorite city in the world, and would live there again if I could. But I wouldn't live in Hyde Park. That is a hot take, I suppose. But you couldn't pay me to live in that neighborhood, beautiful and charming as much of it is, even if I took a job on faculty at the University of Chicago. It's not safe.

Half of the undergrad campus is now in Woodlawn, which has much, much higher crime rates than Hyde Park. And obviously all of the surrounding neighborhoods are even worse. Of course they don’t highlight such factoids on the website or mailers.

Yeah, I went to college in Chicago too. I'd never want to be at UChicago now. So much crime. Not worth it.

Everyone blaming the guy.. I bet you'd all jump in when a "state protected" dude with a gun is mugging a stranger. Share videos of your valor.

Sad part is that if the men intervened and injured the perpetrator, the they would have been arrested. Free Daniel Penny! What is wrong with our world today?!

Unfortunately, after that Marine, the Penney guy, got arrested and charged in NYC for being a good Samaritan on the subway, saving many lives, many people have decided it is not worth it to intervene in these situations

And it’s not worth it if the perpetrator has a gun. Would you intervene against a guy w a gun who is trying to mug a stranger? You are going to get yourself killed.
