Which illustrates how safe Northwestern's Evanston campus is if you read the police reports: "unsecured building", "medical attention", & "suspicious circumstances".

If anyone thinks that Penn's campus and Penn's area of Philly is safer than NU & Evanston, you are either deliberately trying to mislead readers or you have never been to Northwestern & Evanston.

I am not saying Evanston is dangerous, its a great area, I am just saying what if there is a party at u Ch or another part of Chicago--is my kid going to know to say no. When I was 20 I didnt exclusively hang out where my school is.

When we toured Northwestern, there were some parts of Evanston that I felt were sketchy.

Because parts of it ARE very sketchy. Evanston is an urban town bordering Chicago. It’s on the same subway system, subway stops are just west of campus.

Interesting -- Evanston seemed a lot like Bethesda to me when we visited. The parts I saw didn't seem sketchy at all.

We felt like it was an urban adjacent version of Bethesda or Fairfax.

There’s a PI agency everyone in Chicago uses for security. And there are some national companies as well.

They typically do an on /off rotation and will be parked outside the dorm and just follow your kid around after hours.

The scariest part of this incident was that it happened during the day.

Can the person who wrote this elaborate? What’s the name of the agency that tails students around campus and Chicagoland? I understand students value safety but they are okay with being tracked at all hours?Must be a hefty sum to do this. How does “everyone” afford it?

Northwestern's Evanston campus is safe as is the area of Evanston adjacent to campus (actually I have never seen a bad area of Evanston).

Northwestern students rarely--if ever--travel to South Chicago where U Chicago is located. U Chicago is in a "less-than-safe" area.

I can’t speak to using private security as a U of C student but I live on the north side of the city and wouldn’t be surprised if this was true. There are a few wealthy neighborhoods in Lincoln Park that hire private security to patrol their streets at night.

At least University of Chicago does not have violent protesters. Not certain I would feel safe at Columbia or Yale nowadays.
