They are. Also, the neighborhood population that includes the robbers has been deeply hostile to a migrant shelter that was established on the south side. The migrants are definitely not the problem. |
This is such a ridiculous post. Same with the one alleging there are tent cities in Evanston and Willamette. Get off right wing media. |
Quite far. the NU campus and downtown Evanston in general is not terribly dangerous. Much safer than Hyde Park. |
Is the crime worse in DC or the same? I'm afraid to drive to certain parts of town and no longer wear Canada Goose. |
Saying UChicago is in Hyde Park is really misleading. Half the campus is in Woodlawn. And you have to ride the bus, train, and walk around with residents of the exponentially more lawless neighboring neighborhoods. |
My family who live there say many areas are quite safe, and the ones that aren't, aren't. Like any big city, avoid the bad areas. Unfortunately, a lot of this is just a natural consequence of Illinois recent no bail/no jail law for most violent crimes or precursor crimes like tresspassing. Google "Illinois purge law" |
If you’re scared of UChicago’s location, then don’t attend. Tired of seeing the same post over again. |
Yes, so lawless. Typing this from my 4m home in the city. You do know that millions of people choose to live here, right? |
PP. I wasn't trying to mislead anyone. I thought my post made it clear that UChicago is not in a safe area. And yes, the public transportation is in an even worse area. I don't even like get off the Kennedy down there during daylight hours. Hence my statement that Evanston/NU is much safer. |
If parents are worried enough about crime to hire protection for their children, why do they send their kids there? |
UChicago boosters are absolutely trying to mislead people when they bend over backwards to talk about how safe Hyde Park is, while purposely omitting mention of Woodlawn and the other neighboring communities. And frankly, Hyde Park isn’t even safe. |
