Are you from Brazil, by any chance?

Ooooh, yeah!

Of course, now it's becoming a lower-class white thing to re-spell names that were re-purposed in the last decade. Taylor (used to be a family name), then became a girl's name, then became Teighlor or something equally heinous. Or Ashley, used to be a boy's name, then became a girl's name, then became Ashleigh.

I get what you're saying, but Ashleigh is a bad example. That spelling has been around forever. I'm in my 30s and know many many people with the name Ashleigh. I also know a couple of people with the name Leigh, my age and older. Leigh is the female spelling of Lee. I think Ashleigh came from that.

I know a Jordyn, Hilarie, and Brookelynne, all of which I think are pretty bad.

Brookelynne? What riot. I love the borough, but it really isn't a name for a girl. Vaguely slutty to my ears.

OMG--I almost fell off my chair. Hilarious.

I think the stupidest baby names ever are any ones dripping with extra vowels and consonants, or where perfectly nice vowels are replaced with consonants.

This is very much an ethnic thing.
I am not af, but I like af names. It is a distinct feature of their culture

Really? Can you go through the list of "stupid" names that people have posted and tell me which ones you think are ethnic? Was it Bayleigh? McKenzee? Hilarie? Rhyleigh? People are trying so hard to say this is a black thing when really it sounds much more like a lower to middle class, not so black thing. I have plenty of friends that have gotten a bit creative with names and none of them are black. There are some black folks naming their kids some wild stuff, but they certainly aren't "most" of the black people in this country, and it's none of what has been listed here. And the AA's that are doing this have whites living along side them doing what? Giving their kids the names you're listing here. This is environment and class, not race.

My sister wanted to name her DD "Ameleeya." WTF?

She ultimately nixed it but went with something else that is equally appalling (which I won't share as I've seen people on this site like this for their kids in the past.) I can't help but feel for the poor girl.

I read another message board where they refer to these kind of names as "Walmart" names with Cre8tive spellings...
