Predictions for next week: Schools closed until what day?

Wasn't there a second storm right after the first during snowmagedon?

Sounds right to me, although I could see 2 hours late on Wednesday.

+1 and closed tomorrow.

Closed M-W ... 2 hour delay Th and F.

Southern MD will be better than western VA ... they will be off all week.

It is above freezing during the day and below freezing all night ... so the big melt/big freeze will make am roads icy.

According to ... SOME WEBSITE ... three days of 50 degree temperature highs can be expected to melt about 4 inches of snow but the process is slower if it freezes back up at night.

To me, that means we are going to be off all week. There is no way Monday results in the "big melt". It would take 80 degree temps to melt 2 feet of snow.

In a functional area, the roads would be cleared by Monday. This really is starting to feel like a lower-than-expected event, with 8 inches tops. That means school on Monday.

Yes. That's not happening this time. So the talk about extended closures is wishful thinking.

Seriously? Why were schools closed all week in 2010? Well, I'll prepare for a regular week then. Seems like it would be very hard to remove 2 feet of snow from side roads in one day. A few years ago, they didn't get to my road until the following week. Although they are expecting a warm up. Guess it depends on how long it is warm.

The snow was piled up taller than my 2 yr old. Roads unplowed. Most sidewalks were not cleared for a long time. The curbs were the worst bc the road plows made mountains you had to climb over. I am from the Midwest and used to snow but the amount of snow was pretty unbelievable bc they have zero idea how to clear snow around here.

Agree -- in fact I have photos of snow piled up 4-5 feet in places. Federal government was closed all week too. I doubt school will be open again before Wednesday (if we get as much as predicted).

OMG, talk about wishful thinking. No. Freaking. Way. Any chance you've set foot outside this morning? Or commuted home last night? Or have lived through a major snowstorm in DC? This city simply isn't equipped to remove that much snow in 24 hours. It just isn't. There is no way school is open before Wednesday next week.

Yes. The only difference was that there was a second storm on the Tuesday of Snowmageddon week which prolonged things. I believe DC schools opened back up on Thursday or Friday. I can't believe people are saying Monday. That's ridiculous and stupid. They'll be the ones bitching about being caught unaware and not having back up child care.

Right. CWG just tweeted that they need to increase earlier predictions based in newest model. Earlier prediction was 10-25 based on location. I live in upper NW, we will get 18 at least I'm sure.

Nope. Half day, snow starts in the afternoon. They need to get this day in.

Bleh. I'm wrong. Just saw the announcement about tomorrow. Bowser in major ass-covering mode.
