Predictions for next week: Schools closed until what day?

Anonymous
No one is mentioning school closures for next week -- I know there are none at this point, but are there any predictions? What does an historic snowfall mean for school? Any guesses?

open on Monday with 2 hr delay at best in DC. it should stop snowing on Saturday, so plenty of time to clean up the roads.

Will be open all week. Only possibility is a two-hour delay on Monday

Last time this happened, Snowmageddon 2010, was Feb 5-6, also a Friday into Saturday. School was closed the whole following week, and then also on Monday the 15th, President's Day.

2 HR delay on Monday and then the big melt.

Seriously? Why were schools closed all week in 2010? Well, I'll prepare for a regular week then. Seems like it would be very hard to remove 2 feet of snow from side roads in one day. A few years ago, they didn't get to my road until the following week. Although they are expecting a warm up. Guess it depends on how long it is warm.

The snow was piled up taller than my 2 yr old. Roads unplowed. Most sidewalks were not cleared for a long time. The curbs were the worst bc the road plows made mountains you had to climb over. I am from the Midwest and used to snow but the amount of snow was pretty unbelievable bc they have zero idea how to clear snow around here.

OP here. It's supposed to get to 40 on Monday (but below freezing at night) and up to 44 on Tuesday (but below freezing at night). Then back to 40 on Wednesday (freezing at night). According to ... SOME WEBSITE ... three days of 50 degree temperature highs can be expected to melt about 4 inches of snow but the process is slower if it freezes back up at night.

To me, that means we are going to be off all week. There is no way Monday results in the "big melt". It would take 80 degree temps to melt 2 feet of snow.

Sounds right to me, although I could see 2 hours late on Wednesday.

Yep. If the predictions are right -- 18+ inches -- we will be off at least till Thursday, probably all week.

In 2010, the roads were eventually passable but the sidewalks were not. You were either wading knee deep in snow or flat on your ass from black ice packed down. Can you imagine a five year old trying to navigate that? So many of our kids walk to school. It was not easy. I don't have a car and remember trying to drag my granny cart of groceries over snow banks. This was before grocery delivery became a "thing." It sucked.
