Seriously though, what I find really amusing is that a family sitting around playing board games doesn't get a second glance. A group of adults doing the same thing(And yes, that falls under the definition of "gamers" as well) is often looked down on for some reason. A game is a game. There's nothing inherently good or bad about them. I don't see complaints about Mahjong groups, weekly poker games, or any number of other types of games. The only times there are problems are when you place too much importance on them, but that's true whether you are spending too much time playing them, to the point you neglect other things, or you hate them so much that you start denouncing anyone that enjoys them. Everyone plays games, from crossword puzzles, sudoku, board games, video games(Those games on your phone count), sports games, etc. That doesn't make anyone any better than the other.

Except for those who play Magic: The Gathering. Those are some sad, sad people

I think that people like to seize upon adults retreating into a fantasy realm as something childish. But I agree with Freedman, that it's all a way to retreat from reality. Sudoku, crosswords, boggle- educational realm stuff is all so serious and adults. I personally, like pretending I am an elf that can kill a dragon with my crossbow. So much sexier to me than Etsy or Pinterest...

I also think that they way that some people get into team sports, and get into their fantasy leagues, paint their faces, dress their babies in the team wear to indoctrinate them early... is equally about people's fantasies of power, wealth, athleticism, etc. Just sayin'...

There is a continuous story line between all 3 of the ME games, so I wouldn't recommend skipping one. I personally think the first one is the best, although they all had their high and low points. The first ME is definitely the best, although they are all amazing. It pretty much rocked my world, gaming-wise, and I'm normally a very casual gamer.

So, there's this long passionate discussion on the private school forum about Landon complete with sock puppets, paid posters, Jeff the admin stepping in, opinions from many lawyers, etc. After days of this over the top nonsense, Someone posts ..."go back to your parents basement and play video games". I love how our hobby is an insult to the hoi polloi. Why not "play football" or "play bridge" as an insult? Gamers are generally pretty chill, don't understand the hate.

NP here. My halfling rogue's qualifier for whether a dragon is good or bad and therefore needs to be exterminated is directly proportionate to the size of it's hoard.
