I'm sorry for your kids and DHs.

If it makes you feel better, I'm sorry that your DH and kids have such a nagging bitch for a wife and mom. I'm sure your DH's next wife will be much more laid back.

Now your defending your immature, time-sucking "hobby" by calling me names? Even sadder.

My husband and I find better "games" to play in the evening. I don't think he'll be leaving me anytime soon. But your projections on me have me thinking you are feeling a little insecure that one day your DH will realize he married a 15 yo boy!

Yeah... my DH is a big gamer. He loves it when I play (and it has no effect on our sex life, er sorry, "games"). And I know that this might be difficult to wrap your limited brain around, but all hobbies are time-sucks. That's why they're hobbies.

If you think that gaming is immature and for 15 year old boys, let me educate you with a few statistics:

* 49% of gamers are under 18
* Therefore, 51% of gamers are adults (split evenly between 18-49, and over 50)
* 40% of gamers are women
* The average age of gamers is 32 years old
(http://www.onlineeducation.net/videogame)

Time to open your narrow mind and widen your perceptions.

Even with those supposed statistics, it's still sad. The statistics don't change my opinion on the type of adult who continues playing video games well into adulthood. It's an immature hobby.

"sad", right up there with world hunger... So what's a "mature" hobby?

Yeah, I'm going to have to go with this.

Again, do you have any logical backing for your opinion, and can you give an example of what makes this hobby immature as compared to other hobbies? Or is it simply a case of "You don't like it, therefore it must be bad"? Also, your "type of adult" comment is very funny, because adults that play video games actually constitute a fairly typical cross section of the population, across various education levels, income levels, and age levels. In simple terms, that means there is no particular "type of adult" that plays video games, no matter what you believe. Personally, I think insulting people because you don't like their hobby is far more immature behavior, and I feel sorry for your DH and children if this is the way you behave around others.

Clicked on the thread to add that I'm a total gamer (but I like FPS rather than MMORPGs -- ME3 was amazing! Also can't wait for Half Life 3 to come out...HAHAHAHA by then I'll be an old).

Stayed on the thread to commend the massive pwnage of the old who keep harping about gamer ladies. Grandma, you are hilare! Please do keep it up -- we obviously are in need of your bitchy schooling to teach us how to be (dull, prudish, judgmental) women!

Anonymous wrote:My wife and I are both gamers, and we generally play together as well. While we play some console games, we spend most of our game time playing Dungeons and Dragons Online as well. We're not expecting our first until the end of the year though, so we haven't had to cut back on the little play time we have yet. As for the people complaining about our hobbies, please educate us on what we're doing wrong and how your hobby is so much better. It should be fun to read, since public displays of ignorance are always amusing.

My kids are in their teens. I started playind D&D in the 80s...on paper. Yeah, I'm that old. Nobody who knows me IRL would ever think we (DH and I) are gamers, let alone D&D gamers...

p.s. I like wine. I like quilted Burberry jackets.

I like to churn my own butter and bronze pretty autumn leaves that fall off the trees. Surely these are mature, non-time sucking hobbies. I also carry butterscotch candies in my pockets to give out to good boys and girls.

I love it! I wish that you or some one would make a Windows Live/ XBox Live group named DCurbanmoms or some such name so we could find each other for the late night or daytime sessions. I would join up for sure!

I just finished playing Mass Effect 3 (the Mass Effect games are my favorite video games ever!), and I love the Dragon Age games. I'm currently playing Skyrim, at the suggestion of DH, who is a big gamer. I could definitely be convinced to play another MMO but there aren't any that really draw me in right now.

Playing Skrim now too--getting a bit bored though as there's no multiplayer aspect...

Yes, so good I just know whatever I play next will be a bit of a let-down! I'm totally in the market for a well-scripted, amazing FPS (if anyone wants to share their recs).

I don’t think there’s a type or a typical person that would be defined as a “gamer”. We are a pretty diverse group. As a FYI, here’s the composition of our core 10 person (plus 3 alternates) raid team:

1) 46 yo female, executive from DC
2) 43 yo female, attorney from Oregon
3) 64yo male, retired truck driver from Texas
4) 50 yo male, corporate VP from DC
5) 39 yo male, security system installer from South Carolina
6) 41 yo female, SAHM with older kids from NYC
7) 31 yo male, retail manager, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
8) 13 yo male, Student, Virginia
9) 32 yo male, IT Manager, Maryland
10) 26 yo male, auto body shop Manager, Utah
11) 29 yo female, active duty Army, Ft. Huachuca, AZ
12) 17 yo male, Student, Alaska
13) 52 yo male, cab driver, Mexico City, Mexico

We call each other by our real names, most of us have played together for over 10 years. First Everquest and now WoW. We have attended each other’s weddings, celebrated the birth of children, and other important milestones with each other. We are friends in every sense of the word.

Oh, and last night the other games mom’s and I put on our Lovely Black Dresses and met in the Gilded Rose. Over a few shots of Don Carlo’s Tequila, we all decided that we like Burberry quilted jackets, and Tory Burch. We also decided as a group, that we don’t much care for Coach, but that was just our opinion and we wouldn’t bash anyone who does like it. We also decided the new Tier pieces should show more skin on the female toons, but that may have been the tequila talking.

Our guild has been playing Battlefield 3 while waiting on the x-pack, it's a lot of fun if you like FPS.
