Message
Yesterday was a crazy day and I removed a lot of posts. But, if If remember correctly, that thread had an inappropriate post that I wanted to remove. If the entire thread is gone as you say, I must have hit the wrong button. If so, I apologize. That seems to happen about once every 6 months or so.
This is a troll post. Please respond appropriately.

You made up the pad one? That's twisted. I felt sorry for the pretend girl.

I wrote that thread- it was very much real. This person is trolling to stir up drama.

This is the OP sock puppeting. She is trying to stir up drama.

She is constantly posting from her smart phone so it is hard to block her. But, I can identify her posts after the fact. I can certainly threaten to embarrass her. Does anyone want to discuss the "fake" threads she started in the Explicit forum on the main site?

You say this as if it's a big accomplishment. Given that this is a very loosely-moderated, anonymous forum, posting a fake story is not exactly a challenge. I suppose you also brag that you can run faster than your charges? You might want to set your goals a little higher.
Please don't use the names of other individuals while posting anonymously. Posts that do that will be removed, as several have been from this thread.
The posts in the Nanny Search and Nanny Position Search forums are automatically removed after two weeks. The messages in the other forums are not removed unless they are spam or otherwise offensive.
Locking for obvious reasons.
At the top and bottom of each list of topics there are small squares with numbers in them. On either side of the squares are arrows. You can click the square with the number in it to go to that page. Or click the arrow to go to the next or previous page.

I read the home page. Did network traffic from the DB cluster knock over your firewall? Sometimes a route will send everything out and back.

This is a possibility, but not the most likely. The firewall was reporting scans from the Internet. Of course there is nothing new with that, but there could have been something special about that traffic that choked the firewall. My best guess is that there is no relationship between the firewall issues and the cluster issues. But, the coincidence of timing is hard to ignore.

BTW, I am going to solve the cluster traffic problem by running a direct cable between the data nodes. I added the cable today and the nodes can communicate over it. But, at the moment, the cluster is not using that route. I'm still trying to fix that.

Yup, a crossover cable can work and it's clean if you have the NICs to spare. That should eliminate the effects of load, routing, and latency in one shot.

I'm wondering if the scans are really user connections timing out. During the outage, I wasn't going straight to the outage page. A lot of pages were hanging for quite a while. Maybe the app servers aren't playing nice with the cluster DB connections and that bogged evertying down, leaving lots of connection requests hanging at the firewall.

This is a real possibility. The servers were full of connections in time-wait state.

Sorry about the unexpected outage this morning. If you are interested in the gory details, they are on the home page.
Sorry for the extended outage. I had a self-inflicted problem that took most of the day to resolve. Hopefully things will be stable now. We are running on all new hardware and upgraded software. Let's hope it is worth the trouble.
I know which poster you are referring to. She posts very frequently and is probably the most frequent poster on all of DCUM. But, her posts are normally on topic. So, I'm not sure what I should do. If she is disrupting other threads, I can try to stop her, but if she is starting her own threads, I think you just have to ignore them.
The level of monitoring I do on these forums is almost exactly the same as I do in the other forums. The only difference is that I am interested in politics and DC Schools, so I am active in those forums as a user. As a result, those forums get more closely monitored. But, you don't think that I am reading Expectant moms, TTC, or Infertility do you?

Also, someone posted this thread:

http://www.dcurbanmom.com/nanny-forum/posts/list/275406.page

As a result, I have been closely monitoring that particular poster. You may have noticed that I have intervened with regard to her sock puppetting on a few occasions.

So, you are not being completely ignored. But, I view monitoring DCUM as a group effort in which the users have a role. It is impractical for me to read every message so I have to rely on reports from users.

Please, why are you giving a "+" to your own post?
