I get where you are coming from but there are PLENTY of good nannies out there. It's a shame that these few horrible nannies make the rest of us good ones look horrible.

Not the PP you're referring to but just wanted to add that there are many good parents. Infact, billions of them, and just because a tiny percentage abuse their own kids doesn't make them all a risk. A nanny is far more likely to abuse a child, esp a baby, then a parent because they aren't her kids. Yeah most likely wouldn't abuse their charges.

Hah, that is your opinion. A parent is just as likely to abuse their children because they are the ones taking care of them and can much more easily hide the fact that any abuse is going on compared to someone that only has the child for part of a day. Anything done to a child during the day will show up later as bruises and other marks that can be seen at bath time before bed, or when changing of clothes at night or in the morning. Other than minor things like redness that go away within a couple hours, all other bruises take several to actually be visible and are more likely to be seen by parents that night or the next day. A SAHM has more control over who might see any bruising, even the father might not end up seeing something if he doesn't take part in daily routines with changing of clothes and bathing. Also, a nanny can choose to quit a job if anger towards a child develops but a parent will still need to be taking care of their child and will have given up more of their life for the child and will sometimes take this out on them.

That is rude to say. Assuming that someone who beats on a child must be an illegal. I have met several illegal nannies and I have to say that some of them have the best work ethics EVER, and also treat kids so much better than many American or foreign (but here legally) nannies treat their charges. Illegals value their jobs because they can't just go out and apply at Burger King or Starbucks if they lose their job and need to find something else to earn a living. They want to keep their jobs and will work hard to keep them and have great pride on doing a good job.
