Okay, Canucks. You win. I set up a forum for you, eh?
All of the old forums are still available if you just click "DCUM Forums" in the top navigation bar.
Anonymous wrote:What happened? Are you updating the forums or are they all gone and this is a new site?

Nanny forums are here. The original DCUM Forums are still where they have always been. Here:

Anonymous wrote:Does this forum show up in recent topics too?

The nanny forums have their own Recent Topics page. If you want to read the Recent Topics in both the DCUM and Nanny Forums, you will have to use two links. If you bookmark both of them, that should be pretty easy.

The Nanny Search and Nanny Position Search forums are not included in this forum's Recent Topics.
The DCUM forums also have ratings. In order to rate another poster, you have to be logged in. The trolls generally don't login and trolls messing up ratings hasn't been a problem on the DCUM forums.
Anonymous wrote:i HATE this new set up. It's confusing. I liked how everything was in one spot, etc. I doubt I will be coming back anymore.

By my count, this is at least the third time you have said that you doubt you are coming back. Based on this experience, I have considerably less doubt than you. See you tomorrow.
I apologize, but while trying to do some maintenance, I hit the wrong keys and deleted the Nanny for Mormon family thread. Then, when i tried to recover it, I made a second stupid mistake and lost it for good. I guess I need some sleep. Again, I apologize. It was a really good thread and one I wouldn't want to have lost.
Just scroll down a little further and you will find Nanny Search forums for DC, MD, and VA.
Anonymous wrote:Jeff, is the au pair forum for au pairs, the way the other ones are for nannies, or is it for host parents who have questions about hosting? Thanks.

Both. If it turns out we need separate forums for each, I can always make another one.
Thanks. It's nice to get some positive feedback.
Anonymous wrote:PS. Do these topics show up in the recent topics for the dcum search?

No, but they have their own Recent Topics link. As for moving the messages from the old forum, there is a very large number which makes it difficult. I also have to move any user records for users that were logged in when they posted in the forum. That is also a large number. So, it's not a simple matter. I haven't made up my mind if/how to do it yet. But, in a week, there will be plenty of messages here to keep you busy.
Anonymous wrote:The number of sub forums seems a bit much. I am not sure why you need regional and random sub forums (nannies in the news as a sub forum?). The beauty of the old forum is that you could pop on for two minutes and do a quick scan.

As I've said in multiple posts, nothing is written in stone. I started with the regional forums and asked for suggestions for other topics. As good suggestions have come in, I've added forums. I'll probably start removing some that look like they might not get used. I'm just trying to find the right combination at the moment.
I just added a section of the DC Metro Region.
Anonymous wrote:So, I'm confused, is this meant to include employers of nannies as well?

Seems not, so it is more appropriate now to post nanny questions in General Parenting?

Parents who want to post about nannies should do so in the new forums. You make a good point that this is not obvious. I think I will create a forum for Employer questions to make that a bit more clear.

Nanny posts should not be placed in the General Parenting Forum.
Anonymous wrote:I'm not a big fan of this set up either. It was just so easy to quickly check the old forum and see what was recently posted. I am not in DC but I am pretty sure I will go to all of the region sections and partcipate anyway.

Nobody is checking passports. Post in any region you want. But, the easiest way to check recent posts across all forums is to use the "Recent Posts" link on the left.
