Au pairs are terrible, done with this program never again,especially w/J1 ban

I am on my third wonderful Brazilian au pair. I need 45 hours a week because I am a HS teacher. I work 7-3 plus commute time. My au pairs know the deal. They also know they have off every evening and weekend. I don't (can't) pay extra but I give them all days off that as a teacher I have off. I can actually tell them in advance what the extra time off will be simply by looking at the school calendar.They also get all the snow days that i get. It's an attractive deal for them. My au pairs have all been over 21 -- very important to me.

It is the best program for me after investigating every type of childcare.

I should add I know half a dozen other teachers who use APs pretty much for the same reason I do -- it fits our teaching schedule perfectly.

Split schedules for teachers with older / grade-school kids.

My AP and i go running early in the morning before the rest of the household is up.

Works well for us. She is tech savvy and loves supervising distance learning.

If it wasn't for the pandemic, I'd hire a local nanny in a heartbeat. I am very done after this year of hosting. We follow the rules, pay extra, treat her well. But then they get radicalized by their fb groups and it's like dealing with the Q Anon cult

Really??? Physician household that uses every second of that 45 hours. Teachers who are using that 45 hours. Maybe you should get a profession that actually contributes to society and get off your part time job high horse.

No problems at all with au pairs, we obey all the rules of the program, pay 200 weekly, 2 weeks vacation, no extra houses and tight covid rules. Have a great loving relationship with our au pairs.

We also don't tell people who work the jobs thst keep society running that they suck. When YOU catch covid, make sure to tell the doctor who is caring for your sorry ass or the teacher who teaches your kids that they suck for working a 40 hour work week and needing childcare for 45 hours.

That’s us as well. We never pay more. We do treat them as members of our family and not as second class citizens.
