There are several HHI families I know who do this thing where they go through 2-4 nannies a year and just don’t seem to care.
They have the resources to pay a nanny appropriately but offer a low hourly wage ($12-16) and end up hiring a very young or inexperienced nanny, an immigrant or a nanny who can’t find another job for good reason. They don’t follow contract. Don’t pay on time. Treat their employers poorly. Are bad communicators. Basically are terrible employers and don’t keep a nanny for more than half a year. But they don’t seem to care. Every time a nanny quits they don’t seem fazed. On to the next poor soul. I get that they may not care about these women, but what about their kids? Who would hire less than idea candidates if they have all the resources in the world? Who wants their child to constantly have new caregivers? I don’t get it... |
$16 an hour is a reasonable wage. Just because the parents are high earners based on their skill set, does not mean the nanny should be overpaid. Most are not focused on their kids and therefore the little details don't really matter to them. And, some may have far less than you realize once they pay for the fancy house, cars, etc. |
Because they're idiots. Sound like awful parents. |
Op here is your answer right here. Some fools honestly think $16/hr is a good wage. They refuse to believe they are just actually just cheap and should be looking into other forms of childcare. They feel they are entitled to a nanny and love to tell ppl they have one. |
I know an extremely wealthy family who not only underpay their nannies but don’t let them eat in their kosher house. The nannies bring their lunches and then have to eat outside.
Their poor children are crying, nervous, sad messes. |
Its unskilled labor, $16 an hour is reasonable. IF you want more money, then get an education and a job in a higher paying field. Its not cheap. One has to have a job, pay taxes, and all that other stuff, then work expenses on top of the nanny salary. Can you easily make $60 an hour to cover that? Clearly no. |
I hate it when other people count my money. The value of your work is not based on the value of my work. |
Then why hire a nanny instead of daycare? Or home daycare? Or stay at home? A nanny isn’t meant to be a cheap form of childcare bc you want one. IF all you can afford is $16/hr then you need to go back to school and find a higher paying job so you can actually afford a nanny. IF after all your bills you cannot afford the lifestyle you think you are entitled too, then you need to scale back and live within your means. Sounds like you want something you cannot afford and are pissed others can. |
I hate it when ppl think they are entitled to a nanny. |
Because they know nothing about child development and have no respect for skills and knowledge they themselves do not possess. The reason they don’t do daycare is that daycare has set hours and these families usually expect the nanny to be available for much longer hours and some overnights. |
umm daycare is not cheap. It may be less expensive than a Nanny but that doesnt make it cheap. |
Umm it makes it a cheaper option. |
The above poster is an excellent example of complete ignorance. No child deserves that for a parent. It's heartbreaking. -New poster on this thread |
If someone takes the job they offer, they are entitled to a nanny. |
People like you need to get educated on the nanny vs sitter difference. |
