Would you pay anywhere between $725- 900 per week (40 hours) for a nanny in the DMV area? No additional fees such as employer taxes, healthcare, groceries, payroll service, vacation, sick time etc.?

I believe you have to pay employer tax and the person being employed should have taxes taken out. I believe pay roll services charge a monthly fee. I’m a nanny and I don’t get healthcare or groceries from my employers. I do get 2 weeks paid vacation and 2 sick days per year (luckily I don’t get sick very often).

Yes, if you’re an employer you pay employer taxes and if you’re an employee, you have taxes withheld. I’m asking parents if they would pay around that price range, weekly, for a nanny (if they did not have to pay those extra expenses).

Why would they pay cash to you and risk getting caught/tax issues later on when they can pay someone that with taxes? Why would an employer pay groceries in less you live in?

Who said anything about cash? Who said anything about “what I’m asking” being illegal? It’s really just a simple yes or no. THIS IS NOT A JOB POST! So, if you’re a PARENT and could have it your way, LEGALLY, would you... {insert the question above}.

Also, I’m not sure where you’re located but I know lots of nannies who employers buy them food to keep at their house for the week. It may not be hams and turkey but they buy stuff for them which is another expense!

You will not find a good nanny with that package, OP. Plus you do not want a nanny who comes to work with a contagious illness like stomach bug because she can’t afford to miss a day of work. Nanny sick days protect your baby.

NP here. I’ve always supplied my own food, outside of various rare circumstances. And you cannot hypothetically ask a question that is illegal but say “if it was legal”. It’s not legal to not pay taxes, period. If you want advice on not paying taxes, don’t come here because we won’t help you.

If it wasn’t illegal, it would be nice to just pay a rate without the extra expenses. We currently pay our nanny’s health insurance and 15 PTO days.

Well they’re not “extra” expenses. They are rights the nanny has to PTO and vacation

I would not.

I think what we're all saying is --

The dollar amount is fine, but the surrounding other issues make it sound shady and illegal.
