If I have to drive a 2 year old around to sleep for 1-3 hours then my employer needs to order me an Uber driver everyday! There’s no way, your nanny can drive around all that time, each day, without getting tired herself.

I agree with pp, you’ve created a monster! Even if you hire another nanny, that’s not going to fix the issue of your child not sleeping!! But your mommy panties on a train your son! It’s okay for him to kick and scream, it won’t last forever.

Have you even tried a double stroller? If your nanny doesn’t mind, you shouldn’t. Whatever it takes to keep a nanny and get your child on a schedule. The naps don’t last forever but at 2 he needs a nap and if he’s acting out too, chances are it’s because he’s missing out a decent nap.

The nanny can park and play on her phone. She doesn't have to drive for 2 hours. OP says her child won't transfer, not that he wakes up when the car stops.

She also said the infant cries when the car stops, ergo no stopping.

Frankly, the issue is that OP needs to train BOTH children (obviously not the infant... yet...), but she won’t. She just wants to hear that the nanny was horrible for quitting without notice (can’t blame her!), and/or she needs verification that no nanny can handle this (several of us have said it’s doable), so she feels better about hiding two separate nannies.

Like we’ve all been saying “train the 2 year old!” And learn from this and don’t let the baby have the same ways. Is the nanny driving her car or her employer’s? You need to reimburse for mileage and gas! I’m sure the nanny will be using heat or ac at some point but still, no one wants to sit in a car on their phone for 2-3 hours, driving or not. Hope Op can figure it out.

+1000 The only horrible person is the parent enabling the behavior.

+1
It's crazy to expect a nanny or anyone do drive around for hours to appease a non napping child. OP needs to get on board and get the 2 yo trained- he's on the road for running their lives.

OP, this is exactly why you need a seasoned nanny.

I nanny for 2 y/o twins and a 7 month old baby and we got on outings every single day- museums, parks, different libraries, grocery store, book stores for story time, etc. Depending on how much walking we'll do, I use a wrap or stroller for baby and the twins walk. If we really need to, I can bring the double stroller for twins and wear the baby.

Baby's morning nap is roughly 8:30-10am, outings from 10-12pm, home for lunches then all 3 go down for nap while I unpack from the morning, eat my lunch, and cook their dinner. 2 year olds sleep from 12:30-2:30/3 and baby sleeps 12:30-2 and then has another catnap around 4:30. I use the baby's first and last naps to do activities with the 2 year olds like sensory bins, crafts, mini experiments, etc. Then 2 year olds go to bed for the night at 6:45pm and baby shortly after.

It's not rocket science to get a baby and toddler on a complimentary schedule!

Oh and the horror- my car is always parked 3-4 blocks from my NFs house!

The problem is that the 2 yr old doesn’t sleep unless in the car not that they’re not on the same schedule. The 2 year old needs to be sleep trained, in his crib! A lot of nannies do the same activities as you! Stop bragging- it’s nothing special you’re doing!

And the OP said her daughter is a lot younger than 7 months. You sound like a know it all nanny. No thanks.

Some 2 yr olds give up napping.

Some kids outgrow naps at that age. If he is fighting them, cut them out and put to bed earlier.

If the parents don't have their two years old under control why should a nanny have to bother with him/her it isn't her duty? Who takes care of the child when the nanny goes home at night. A nanny's has only so much authority over people's children.
