I believe my daughter as she NEVER makes up things.

What would you do ?

Bottom line: She believes her child. Then why is she still paying the woman?? Very confusing.
I work full time and finding a new nanny takes time. This is the only reason.

Are you a single parent?

My 3 yr old told me that she had snuck out of her grandmother's house and had walked alone along the highway. She told me she was going to walk home. She insisted this was true and told me a very detailed story about her walk along the highways. I was starting to get worried as it sounded like it could be true. Then I asked her what she did when she was tired of walking and she told me she ate muffins. I then said - so grandma gave you muffins before you snuck out. She said no, they were my own muffins. I asked her what she meant by her own muffins and she looked at me like I was stupid and said, you know - from my muffin store! Okay - littlest hobo and master baker you are not!

She told this story as though it had all happened plain as day. She must have truly believed it all as she had all the details worked out and even when I told her this didn't happen, she insisted adamantly that it had.

I honestly don't really understand this train of thought. I'm not trying to be rude or difficult I'm just honestly trying to understand. I totally get how hard it is to find a new nanny but if you are 100% certain this actually happened then you suck it up and find a new nanny. If the point of your original post was whether or not to believe your DD that's a different story but since you are so certain your DD is telling the truth then I don't understand why you would continue to let the nanny take care of your child. It is NEVER ok for her to hit your child. If it was me the nanny would already be gone.

The answer is very easy. We've had terrible experience with previous nannies. We are afraid the next one can be even worse.... But you're absolutely right. We will let her go.

Then I think you need to ask yourself why you have had such terrible experiences with previous nannies. I'm not blaming you but you need to look carefully at your offer, yourselves, how you are finding the nanny etc. I'm not sure where you live but we have not had any difficulty finding a wonderful nanny here in DC. We have also lived in several other places in the country and have also always had excellent nannies.

I really don't know. maybe just bad luck. We check them carefully, we always have trial days before we hire them and we check their references. Ps. We live in DC area.

Why have your previous nannies been so bad and how many have you had? I know this is not always the answer but maybe you need to look at what you are offering. If you are offering a fair, competitive rate and benefits you really shouldn't be having so much "bad luck".

We had 2 nannies before. The first one was always on her Facebook or texting her friends. Instead of taking care of the baby she was doing some exercises

The second one was always late - Every single day. Sometimes even 40 minutes. When her grand kids got sick, She didn't come for three weeks.. ! And she didn't worry about the backup care.

We are offering fair, competitive rate and all the benefits.

Maybe it is just bad luck then. How many people are you interviewing before you are hiring someone? Are you rushing to find someone or are you taking your time? It took me 2 months to find our most recent nanny. I was really picky and interviewed a ton of people. They were all really qualified but just didn't have 100% of what I was looking for until we finally found someone who is perfect.

Uh, if your nanny slapped her put her hands on your child in a negative way you fire them. It shouldn't even be a question.

a 3 year old does not really lie like that now my question is where she got slap? why? and how does your daughter feel about it as a mother i would sit ant talk to my nanny let her know how i feel about spanking sometimes its a reflex could be a tap on the bom or hand. clearly you don't like it mom so tell the nanny what you would like in the future. ps sometimes the nannies are from a different world and forget sometime that America is different

I think you must be offering too little. I've found when parents THINK they're paying well, they actually aren't at all in line with their expectations. Hence all the confusion here.
