Had argument with MB and could use perspective. Lengthy. RSS feed

Well, I don't think I'm a nasty person, but not going to change anyone's mind. If parents aren't allowed in same room as kids, how can I be 'watching the child?' Using my ipad while waiting is not allowed???

New poster here... Op, you need to seek more then new employment... You need to seek a new career.

And when I say new career... I mean McDonald's... Because you seem very lazy and unmotivated. Nannies do light house keep. Nannies do errands and nannies absolutely wait Inside whether they want to or not. Your job is to make the families life easier - not harder.

OP does not want to do anymore than what has already been asked of her, but wants MB to bend over backward to accommodate her. Time for OP to find a new job.

Normally I would say sit down and chat to give it one more chance but sounds like you have already made up your mind. It sounds like miscommunication all round.
Asking to leave early in first few wks is not really on-it makes you look flakey as you have no work history with them prior to that.
You should of just waited in the lobby as previously told to do. Though if you're meant to wait in the lobby I am not sure why she is now saying you could of done errands. I had a job where there was a lot of waiting around while the child was in activities-it was boring but part of the job. Take a book etc. Tbh I don't see why you would have an issue with some errands since you obviously didn't relish the idea of waiting in the lobby.

The MBs here are pissed that OP got paid $20/hr. That's all their anger is about. Too bad.

I think the MB was in a bad mood and nitpicking re: grocery shopping during the activity. OP is not a mind reader.

She was nitpicking but a good employee will do the extras for job security. With one of our activities, there is a food store in the same complex. I get MB's point that if she did not care to stay at the activity, maybe nanny could run up and pick up a few things, especially if the MB is not feeling well.

But how on earth would she have known to do this if it wasn't discussed?? Does she have access to a charge card, did she give her a list of items? MB can't be upset about nanny not doing something that was never discussed

No. I plan on apologizing again for asking to leave early and having my phone on during work hours, but other than that, I don't feel too much like I did anything else wrong. She was home everyday this week. She knows I wasn't a sit on my butt nanny at all, and honestly, with her being home, I tried very hard to be constantly engaged and 'on' since boss was right there. I think the pregnancy has stressed her and I really feel for her. I do wish them the very best and if I were in her situation, I would definitely seek someone who can do housekeeping and errands since it's dificult right now. For $20/hr, she will absolutely find an appropriate fit for household and child care needs.

The kid had an hour-long class and you wanted to sit on your ass in your car to play on your phone. How exactly does that demonstrate that you're not a "sit on my butt nanny at all"? That is EXACTLY what you are.

No, you're missing the point. The nanny took lots of initiative to keep herself entertained. She asked if she wait in the car for privacy. She took initiative to see if she could connect to the WIFI in the building. The mom is sitting there not feeling well watching her nanny..who never does anything without being told first..make all this effort to entertain herself. The grocery store errand was an example of something the nanny could have offered to do.

If you combine this with only working 3 hours yet asking to leave early the third day and running out the door the minute her schedule is over, you don't have a $20 nanny. The OP's other posts back up that she is lazy nanny. She was hoping to land a $20 an hour job where she had very little work and could play on her iPad all day. She used to be a $16 nanny and did light housekeeping which is more relevant to the market.

OP you need to leave your iPad at home. Yes, a job that requires no work and pays 40% more than what you made a few weeks ago is too good to be true.

The parent should have asked about that in the contract then and OP could have decided whether it was something she wanted to take on. Very simple. And no, sorry to burst your bubble, but not all nannies do light housekeeping, especially if it wasn't discussed first.

Yup. Know from experience that then it becomes a regular expectation. I think OP felt like she made a mistake taking the job in the first place but was stuck and the parents made a mistake hiring someone who didn't fit their needs, but that's their fault. Best to part ways and all can be satisfied.
