The PP above assumes that a lesbian nanny might molest her young daughters.

It blows my mind that anyone thinks this way. A lesbian is attracted to women, not children. A straight women is attracted to men...are these morons worried about them molesting their sons?

Why did you pull this up from November???

I honestly don't think it is their business. Also. If you goose to make it a big deal. Then it will be. I use to like employers knowing my business so they could give advice but with this current family. I keep it professional. At the end of the day. They are not my friend. They are my employer and from past experience it is best I keep it professional meaning any question like that..a simple no and change the subject. Just my take. I'm glad I'm not as open as I use to be. I I say anything I try and make it a positive. Like yes I like to cook or my family loves that show but nothing too personal jus vague sweet short! Don't make it a big deal. It is not their business. Don't seek attention either.

Eek. Do you live in the "bible belt" of Texas??! LOL.

Anyway, most Christians are very against homosexuality. The Bible condones it and it basically goes against Christian principles. However, in my humble opinion, the Bible condones many other things as well....however for some odd reason, Christians tend to downplay these other things and single out homosexuality only.

However, there are some Christians who are more liberal regarding gay issues/marriage, etc. So to stereotype all of them would be unfair and unrealistic.

I say as their nanny, you have no obligation to out yourself to them.
As long as you are performing your job effectively, there is no reason you have to tell them your sexual orientation.

These days most folks are open-minded about sexual orientation, however not all of them are.

Some people believe that just because someone is gay, that means they are pedophiles and molest children. (A horrible misconception, but believe it or not, some people still believe this!!)

So to err on the side of caution, just skirt any conversations regarding your personal life.
Since they are assuming you like guys, I am guessing your sexual orientation is not obvious.

IF you feel you must tell them, then by all means mention it as though it was "no big deal." (It really isn't since it does not affect your duties.)
If they decide to fire you based on that, then that would just show how callous they are and you wouldn't want to work for a family that is so close-minded anyway.

I know this isn't the popular opinion, but I would want to know if my nanny was a lesbian. Especially since I have young daughters.

My children's well-being come before being PC.

And your nanny should know you are an ignorant bigot.

I'm an MB and you are an embarrassment with such foolishness.

It is fine that this parent does not want a lesbian watching her children. It is her choice not to have that influence in her home. I would not want that for my children either.

To say lesbians do not molest children is wrong. A close female friend of mine was molested as a little girl by a lesbian babysitter. It happens.

No one said lesbians don't molest children, however, most molesters are straight males.

The point is, a lesbian is not automatically a child molestor because she is a lesbian. Get with the times people. What happens when one of your children ends up being gay?

Straight women have molested children too. Straight men have molested children. Gay men have molested children. Lesbians have molested children. A person's sexuality doesn't determine whether or not someone is going to molest a child. To think that just because a person happens to be gay means they will molest children is a horribly ignorant and bigoted opinion.

I don't think I ever said that every lesbian is a molester, but it happens. Adults of all sexual preferences molest children. To say every lesbian will molest children is like saying every priest is a child molester. But you have those out there who like to think that someone who is gay or lesbian could never abuse a child.

Wait, is this thread turning into a discussion about pedophilia? What in sam hell does this have to do with the topic? Totally irrelevant. Anyways, OP, I think that it's awesome that you have been "coming out of the closet" but that doesn't mean you have to go around telling everyone. I think the family you work with doesn't really have to know this information about you and should remain private unless its something you want to disclose. Don't feel bad for wanting to keep it to yourself. As a straight female, I never talk about my dating life because its my private life and separate from work.

No, it isn't fine. Yes, she has the right to discriminate against anyone she wants, but it isn't fine.

Ignorant bigots need to be called on their idiocy. If they aren't, then prejudice is tacitly accepted by the silent.

Does "calling some one out" only require that you proclaim them to be a prejudiced idiot? If the goal is increase understanding & decrease ignorance, then name calling probably doesn't get us very far. But if your goal is simply to shut PP up, then that approach might work.

In this case, I might have pointed out that it is illegal in many states to discriminate against an employee based on sexual orientation. So while PP might have a personal opinion that it is acceptable, it is not acceptable before the law.

Ok, so I am the OP and this thread is OLD.

It was all taken care of, everything is splendid and MB/DB could care less.
