Same thing happened to me 10yrs ago when I got pregnant with ds. MB acted excited for me for about a week then asked if I'd be open to adoption since she didn't want a nanny with a kid in tow. I said no, she fired me.

I'm really sorry OP. Unfortunately it happens. It happened to me and I'm an MB, not a nanny. I told my employers I was pregnant, they said congratulations but didn't really seem that excited and then fired me a week later.

You're full of it because it is illegal to fire for pregnancy, unless you were a nanny.

While it may techincally be legal many women still are fired or demoted due to pregnancy in the corporate world. Their supervisors don't say it's because of pregnancy because that would be grounds for a suit. There are ways around it.

OP I'm sorry this is happening to you. Better days are around the corner.

19:58 of course it's illegal, lots of things are. But in the real world some employers are assholes and don't follow the law, leaving the employee to sue or prove a case with little resources. In reality you end up finding another job because you have bills to pay.

This + 1000. Unless you have a really unique relationship with your employer (which occurs more frequently with nannies than other occupations), they don't care about you, they care about themselves. And when you continue to work with a child that requires you to call out more often leaving your employers stranded without child care, you'll start to put yourself in their shoes. Life isn't always fair.

My old mb got fired when she was 38 weeks pregnant. I guess they didn't want to pay her during maternity care not sure. Her boss said if you don't show up to this conference then goodbye. She was 38 weeks pregnant and couldn't fly that late in the pregnancy . I ended up loosing my job after since mb wasn't working.

Are you really that stupid? You think just because something is illegal means no one does it? I am a physician and I was fired shortly after I told them I was pregnant. I know that's why they fired me but it's not like they said "we are firing you because you are pregnant."

While it may be illegal, if the OP was working under the table, she may have no legal recourse.

OP, I am so sorry your boss fired you for this. Esp. after saying she was excited for you! What an awful and mean-spirited thing for her to do to you and I truly hope karma bites her in the butt for this.

Thanks for the advice for other nannies.

How pregnant are you and how soon does your employer expect to replace you? It isn't immediately clear that there is some horrible wrong being done here.

They didn't give you two weeks notice right? You might be unable to work by the end stages of your pregnancy?

It's possible the employers in this case are just planning appropriately. Maybe there's a chance the nanny won't be able to work for the duration of the pregnancy and she's already at 6 mths? Maybe the employers are putting out feelers and saying they'll be needing someone at the start of the new year?

Too much info missing her to just condemn anyone.

Second PP from top. I was 20 weeks along when I was fired for wanting to keep my baby.
