Sorry, did I miss a vote where you were appointed board monitor? Where do you get off lecturing people about whether they should or “shouldn’t be participating?” Delusions of grandeur. ![]() |
I was an au pair in Europe for a very wealthy family after college in the summer (I’m American). At first it was exciting but I was mostly interested in the cultural exchange part although I also like children and babysat a lot. I grew resentful towards the end because the pay was low for the amount of hours I worked and the kids were very spoiled and they lived a very extravagant life. I also started meeting people and wanted more personal time to explore those friendships, travel and be an independent person. I’m assuming it’s similar for a lot of young au pairs that think of childcare as secondary. I never resented the kids and still have a good relationship with them but the parents just came off as very entitled. I think age plays a big roll as well, you are young, immature still and want to enjoy life as an “adult”. |
I vote OP for board monitor. You’re annoying and jealous much? |
I’m with the OP on this one. If you don’t have anything to add to this conversation except some basic bitch comment about how a mom doesn’t spend enough time with her children - where you don’t know this woman, don’t know her kids, don’t know her life… yeah sit down. Nobody wants to hear your hot take. |
We had this with our Au Pair. She extended with us (her inititiation) and then got really weird and resentful. Mind you, we have a high risk child and it was before DC could get vaccinted for COVID so we had to be very careful. But au pair knew that and still asked to extend.
I still can't understand why she didn't try to rematch. My hunch is that she knew we payed wayyy over other HFs because we knew we had more COVID restrictions |
agree! I can't tell if it's a troll AP or just some woman who is that unhappy with her life |
+100 |
It's a woman who is unhappy with her life and takes it out on women she believes have better lives. "Au pair" sounds fancy so this forum has attracted assorted haters that harrass working women in every third thread or so-- been this way for more than a decade now. |
If they only knew "fancy" meant arguing about car curfews and acting shocked when they actually have to work |
"Jealous" of a sanctimonious jackhole on a nanny board? No, sweetie, but you tried. And since it doesn't say "Jeff" next to sanctimonious poster's name, it doesn't make a bit of difference who she lectures that they "should not be participating." Grow up. |
Another one with delusions of grandeur. No one is "sitting down" because you tell them to. Get a life. |
Oh my, you are now accusing a second person of suffering from serious mental illness, all because they disagree with you. You are also applying the phrase “delusions of grandeur” incorrectly. Bro did you even take Psych 100? |
It was already heading in a not so great direction, but au pairs became ultra entitled during COVID. I will not hire any Au Pair in the near future. |
Sanctimonious Jackhole here. Glad I'm not alone in my experience. I'm mainly confused in retrospect, but I think I might be a one and done host mom even though I was super into the hosting part. I feel like it cost my kids too much. |
They get radicalized into thinking they are getting the raw end of the deal. Oh, and watch for the Harry Potter references--it's code for au pair slavery apparently |
