AP and military readiness, possibly the best (only) argument that Trump will hear

The guys doesn't care that Russians are paying bounty to kill killing U.S. troops, what make you think he will care about this? My point being nobody has any idea why this government does stuffs. We just hope that things will get better...one day.

This is an election year. The article I posted was aimed at military readers; if it’s picked up by mainstream news during the election cycle, he’ll either have to deal with it (possibly lifting the AP ban) or be ousted as completely incompetent. Most military backers are conservative and/or Republican, and he knows he can’t afford to alienate them all.

As I said before, the AP program is small, easily overlooked or misunderstood by the vast majority of people. It will take it being explained in a way that the average person can understand (ie. as childcare that allows for flexibility and consistency for military families) before he has to deal with it.

~Nanny who happens to think the AP program is a good thing and wants it saved

Lolol!!! I'm literally doubled over laughing at AuPairs becoming a platform issue for either candidate.

Au pairs in isolation -- sure, low priority.

Foreign workers in general -- probably a bigger deal than you think.

“Purpose of travel is to care for a minor U.S. citizen, LPR, or nonimmigrant in lawful status by an au pair possessing special skills required for a child with particular needs. Also excepted is travel by an au pair that prevents a U.S. citizen, LPR or other nonimmigrant in lawful status from becoming a public health charge.

Purpose of travel is to provide childcare services for a child whose parents are involved with the provision of medical care to individuals who have contracted COVID-19 or medical research at a United Stated facility.”

Ok, so the first exception is for a skilled AP for a child with special needs. Can anyone clarify the second part, AP preventing someone else from becoming a public health charge? Third is an exemption for every family who has a parent working in medical research related to covid or “involved in” medical care for covid patients, so not just doctors and nurses, that would mean intake and lab as well? Anyone even peripherally involved?

I guess people working for Trump who have APs figured out a way to carve exceptions just for themself, disgusting!

It’s not just themselves, but it is very limited. I’m trying to figure out what they mean by “ prevents a U.S. citizen, LPR or other nonimmigrant in lawful status from becoming a public health charge.”

It is vague as they also leave justification open with “ particular needs“; not special needs.

So only child, depressed or whatever seems like state department will entertain.

Not a conspiracy, just guessing from the way the Trump government works.

Just hanging on the "part of the family, cultural exchange" will not change the facts that there are too many challenges right now with the program, and will most likely end.
Be pro-active, look now alternatives, get your children safely in the hands of more professional care givers, and let this go. Just let it go.
Agree also that the au pais right now are only looking for the extra bucks, and going into rematch after rematch just to continue getting bonus, etc. Sure, it is their right, but it has nothing to do with an exchange program anymore.

Did you get lost? You know there is a forum for nannies looking for work, right? Last year my coworker came home to her $22/hour nanny (with 15 yrs experience) sleeping on the couch while her 8 month old crawled around the house unsupervised, so, no.

Your agency should send you a form with the 3 categories you need to qualify with. The agencies and State Department have/are negotiating the process and when appointments start. Keep in mind the travel ban is in effect in most countries still, so you cannot get an AP from everywhere with the waiver.

As a former AuPair to LCC I can tell you AuPair stories that would make your skin crawl.

Can you share some examples?? We were a first time host family that just went into rematch. I am so disillusioned and disappointed that all my high hopes for a cultural exchange and new family member were dashed. I need some motivation to just let go and start looking for a local nanny
