Oh, my God, OP, I am so sorry! What an asshole!!! |
|
Op here, there's nothing more to tell. Everythin was fine and dandy until yesterday. Thanks for the well wishes everyone.
Just curious, are pink slips usually handed out on Fridays? Mb is a teacher. Did she probably have more notice and just didn't tell me?! So inconsiderate. |
Is she a teacher in a local (to the DC area) public school? A private school that generally follows the same schedule as local public school? There is still 3-6 weeks in the school year for most schools around here. It's very odd to lay off a teacher just a few weeks before school lets out. |
| I am actually in Massachusetts. She works for a public middle school. Their last day of school here is June 29th. |
Brockton? Yes, it is in the news that they are having massive layoffs. http://www.wbur.org/edify/2017/05/04/brockton-schools-layoffs |
What a effing bitch! I hope she gets all that she do richly deserves and in spades. OP, you are eligible for unemployment. |
In that case, she should never have hired a nanny and should have used day care. |
Hahaha what? If you have to work to afford a nanny, you shouldn't have a nanny? Most people work for the money they need to pay for things, including childcare. OP, I'm sorry this happened to you, and I'm sorry for your MB. I definitely feel that she could have handled it better, but she was probably reeling from getting let go herself. Good luck finding another position quickly! |
So sorry OP regarding the unfortunate outcome.
Keeping my fingers crossed that you find a new position very soon. |
| OP again, , I just saw on MBs social media account (we are not friends, but I look at her profile) that they got a puppy last night. Not a time to get a puppy if you ask me. I can imagine her being like "Sorry that your nanny disappeared kids, but here's a puppy!" |
Maybe someone gave them a puppy as a gift. She got fired. She got no notice, so neither did you. Apply for unemployment and get a new job. A nanny is not a parent or family member. You are making yourself out to have a more important role than they feel you have. You are a caretaker. Do you think she said goodbye to her students? Probably not. She probably lost 30 of them. |
Most nannies are 5-7 years, so it does make sense to some families to have child care as after kids go to school, they can use aftercare which is much cheaper. If mom drops out of the workforce, its hard to get her job back again. |
Stop making excuses for OP'S cretin MB! Teacher's have unions and the Unionshave policies regarding lay off, firing. Her MB was not left empty handed. Also puppies cost money and if you just got laid off you shod not be incurring added expenses. OP, either she found someone cheaper or she has decided to be a SAHM. She lied to you. Tell all your nanny friends to steer clear of her! |
|
Your former MB is a true bitch. I am so sorry, OP, but think of it as a blessing. You deserve a better employer.
Seriously, what an asshole thing to do in a text. All the MBs on this forum would be crying and screaming if a nanny quit in a text and never said goodbye to the kids. |
| Just to answer one question ... Yes, pink slips and other bad news are often distributed on Friday afternoon. No one has to come back to work the next morning in a funk, and, probably the real reason, the folks in charge aren't in for two days to get yelled at. |
