Nanny Bonus? RSS feed

5 weeks of vacation is a lot and is WELL over market. That's the bonus. Give her $100 if you feel like you want to do something extra.
Anonymous
It is crappy to skip her bonus because the reality is that you just do not need her those extra weeks. So this is still something you are doing for YOU not something done to show her how much you appreciate her.

OP here,

Thank you everyone for your input it was very helpful. We would most definitely not expect her to work or to try and find work during her time off. I have realized that it is very last minute to have informed her of the change. If we knew of the change sooner she would have possibly made travel arrangements as she loves to travel.

We are now aware that she may be bored during all this time off as some nannies may have mentioned. We are also now aware that a holiday bonus is to show your appreciation and gratitude and we are most definitely appreciative as she is also a part of our family. She is terrific with the twins and you can see it when they see her walk in every morning.

OP- so you weren't planning on paying the nanny that you love for the last minute extra few weeks off? Wow...

What about her follow up post made you think that? If fact I took away the complete opposite. We argue so hard with some awful awful MBs, hoping to get through to them, and that they will treat their nannies better. This OP actually listened and took something from the thread, and you continue to attack her! You don't know when to stand down.

OP here.

Thank you 13:15. As for 12:55 I am not sure if you were following correctly but my original post stated that we were paying our nanny for the entire 5 weeks. I came on here to get advice from some MB's and nannies out on what would be expected if our nanny didn't receive a holiday bonus.

MB here.

Five weeks off, paid, is an excellent bonus. If she expects more on top of that, you may have a greedy nanny.

All this talk of boredom is borderline trolling from nannies who constantly complain here. You never hear them complaining about being bored during nap time, do you?

Okay first, 2 of those 5 weeks are not bonus, they are nanny's contracted vacation, and it seems she is given no say as to when it occurs. Not cool. And second, calling YOUR vacation/nanny time you aren't using a gift or bonus is akin to regifting, or worse something you had lying about the house and weren't using. "Here, we have this [time] we aren't using, so here's your gift/bonus! If you don't love it, you're greedy!" Do you truly not see how lame that is? You wouldn't do that to anyone else in your life, at least I hope not.

WOW. I'm a full time nanny. And if I would get 3 extra weeks paid vacation I would be over the moon. Why some of you so nasty towards the OP. The only thing I see how nicely she talks about her nanny. And please people 5 weeks paid vacation is a lot more than most of us ever got. Most of the time I see people fighting for their 2 regular weeks...

Listen to yourself. Your first argument is that it's only three, vs five, paid weeks off. Next, you think that all this paid free time should be run by you, first, because, apparently, you think you get to dictate bonuses. Good luck with that.

Your final, and most hilarious argument, is that it's so "lame" not to give you more money on top of an extra three weeks paid vacation. Why? Because you want it. Cue the tiny violins.

If you actually believe the nonsense you are posting here, then you are stupid or greedy.

Three paid weeks to sit at home doing nothing is an excellent bonus.

You completely missed my points, but I see that you will not hear reason, so I won't waste my time explaining further. If you think it's acceptable to give something as a gift, simply because you aren't using it, you go for it. I hope you get lots of regifted/discarded/after-thought gifts this year! I'm glad, at least OP is better than that.

You're out of your mind. I would be THRILLED to have 3 extra weeks of paid vacation. It doesn't matter what my boss wants or doesn't want to do with that time -what matters is that I get to do whatever I want and get paid for it.

I'm just wondering, do you all teach the children you work with that its okay to call people names and insult them if they have different opinions? Do you teach them that only their opinion matters? Good grief. Sure, you'd be thrilled with 3 weeks off. I actually like my job, and I'm broke, so I wouldn't have anything to do with that much time off. And for me, when it comes to a gift/bonus, its actually the thought that counts, and there is NO thought behind giving the nanny time off that you'd already be paying for because you aren't using it, and calling it a bonus. Its not. Why stop there? Why don't you wrap up the food in your fridge you won't need while away and call it her christmas gift!!

Op here,

@20:48- I never thought of it as a "re-gifting" gift. However, it most definitely make sense. I wouldn't want to receive something that was already used or given because they no longer needed it. I also understand that she would have been working if not given the extra time off and received a holiday bonus.

Thank you everyone for your input it was definitely taken into consideration.
