Does "a drop" count? I thought that was just for slavery? |
Why? please elaborate. |
PP, it looks funny (cheap, or worse) when people who obviously are not supposed to have (whatever color) hair have that color hair if it is dyed. Maybe that is why they ask. |
Elaboration: would you describe anyone else as a mutt. Mutt is derived from Mongrel, referring to dogs. You must not like Europeans? Are you jealous of them? |

you don't want to p*ss me off...takes alot to get me going--but if i'm wronged...the whoop-a** gene kicks in. holidays are pretty lively with my family---lots of food, lots of drink, and lots of loud ppl. |
OP here - thanks to those who replied... I'm assuming its representative of the bunch... I've seen a few comments on dcurbanmom that verge into racism and have noted that no one called out the posters (these were on old threads i had searched, so i didn't comment myself and bring out a new thread that was X months old), so I've just been curious about what the make-up is... |
I have heard people jokingly refer to themselves as mutts to describe their mixed heritage, whether it is a blend of European backgrounds or non-European. I've called myself that, jokingly. DH calls himself a mutt mix of Dutch, German and Cherokee. |
OP again - also, i meant people to identify themselves as they saw - sorry about any confusion regarding race/ethnicity - as you know, the US census only identifies race as "white, black, asian, mixed, and other" and ethnicity as "hispanic and non-hispanic" which doesn't really reflect the true diversity of america. |

American raised, mixed Irish and Japanese. |
100% Italian - first generation
light eyes, light hair have been mistaken for German |
Northern Italians are light/fair skin/hair/eyes. It is an uneducated misconception that all Italians are dark. PP, I would find any prejudice or anything that could be perceived prejudice toward Europeans unwise. They paved the way for an amazing amount of progress toward new Americans of any generation. If they did not speak English, they did not eat. They did not expect that things be handed to them, like so many (NOT all) immigrants today (who would not admit it). They were treated horribly. Immigrants today should thank Europeans every single day. I do. |
For bring diseases, enslaving others and taking over other peoples' lands? |
PP I dont get what your problem is with people describing themselves as mutts when describing their own background. If they dont have a problem with it, what's your beef? ITA that it would be insulting if it were someone else talking dismissively about their ancestry but its not. |
