Black. Obama-type Mutt and proud. (Black African father, white American mother). And elitist. ![]() I've been heartened to see the self-reported diversity in this thread. Although have to agree some posts in forums sound pretty culturally ignorant given the demographics of DC Metro area. |
well i've always the assumed the ignorance was because a lot of the dcum's run in more affluent, less diverse circles. (e.g. the 500 self proclaimed lawyers who live in cc and bethesda and send their kids to the big 3) or perhaps the white people are just not identifying themselves. |
caucasian does mean white. Just as American does not. American is a place. |
In America, people identify themselves with descriptions such as Italian-American. Do people in other parts of the world do the same? If you live in Italy and are the child of someone born in the U.S. and someone born in Italy would you be American-Italian?
My mother was from England, but her features, skin and hair color indicate that our heritage is not Anglo-Saxon. I guess most people would say my background is Italian/English, but I think I must be a mutt like so many others. |
Irish American (for example) would suggest that your parents came here. Irish descendant would imply that your grandparents or before arrived here. Unless you just specify 1st generation (parents); second generation (grandparents); etc. But some people like to claim they are more descendant than not. As for the "mutts", I totally don't understand referring to homosapiens as such. |
All whites are Caucasian, but not all Caucasians are white. |
that's not true. you can be have white skin and be born in another area of the globe. you kidding me? |
Where would that be? Since Caucasian encompasses peoples from Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, West Asia, Central Asia, and South Asia. |
People from India and Iran and the middle east are Caucasian. They are not White. Some would even say Jews, Spaniards, Italians (Southern ![]() Not much of this has any scientific significance since the patterns of migration to places like India from Africa probably had little to do with Europe. |
I have never heard of th Italian-American, Irish-American, I was born and bred abroad |
