Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
Well, this is coherent and represents you well. |
Which gets to my suspicion that MCEA is in fact a "company union", that is one that is actually run by and for the MCPS admins. I've noticed that being a UNION rep is often considered a stepping stone on one's way from teacher to administrator. I am always floored how often this so-called teacher's union just says "live with it" to the members it is supposed to be advocating for. |
So you pay for another administrator busting your chops and driving you out of the profession with impossible demands and to document how bad you are. I love how they call this support for your own growth and this extra support costs thousands per year.
|
No one has driven out of the profession. There are other public school systems in commuting distance. You can go teach in Frederick. Or HoCo, AACO, PG, DC, FFX. So many choices. Not to mention all the private schools. |
You'll just find the same problems at other schools. Trust me on that. I'm "decades in," and during my time have seen the same problems at multiple schools. when I first started, principals had the autonomy to kick kids out - and to handle discipline in the right way. That's gone. to the person encouraging teachers to hit other systems? You're not very smart, and I'm being nice. Ignoring the very problems that are destroying the system is unhealthy. But maybe you PREFER not to see them. Or, you're not in the system so you CAN'T see them. If that's the case, then butt out. |
Actually, you're not very smart. I'm not that PP, but there are happier teachers AND happier administrators in neighboring school districts. Just talk to educators in Howard County. Why would we stay if we're impotent and feel hopeless that things will improve? |
If you don’t stay, you don’t have an excuse. |
if you're decades in at least you can retire with 80% of your full pay largely thanks to the union |
That doesn’t resolve PP’s emotional needs. |
80%? I don’t know which district pays out at 80% but it sure isn’t MCPS. Try 60%, and that’s after 30 years for those of us in the old system. Teachers hired after 2011 will max out at about 50% and they have to meet the rule of 90 to get that much (your age plus your years of service have to equal 90 or more to get full benefits). |
Wouldn’t that be better than being “demoralized”? |
I can’t go into details for privacy reasons, but this student is an extreme case. One of my most difficult situations in my length, experienced mid level career. |
It’s about 90% for those employed before 2011 once you include SS and the county supplemental pension. For those hired after 2011, it’s about 80% |
| The unions seem to be targeting people to show that theyre weeding out the system. But that's only new teachers as the tenured ones need weeded. Its too much of a popularity contest. No one gives a poop about teachers. We are a dime a dozen. Don't let you p make you fudge the numbers. |
