As I recall, BRYC (and Arlington and Loudoun) all walked away from the Spirit DA partnerships in 2016 over control issues. As in, the clubs wanted more than the pro organization would give them, especially about coaching staff and rostering decisions. But now, the BRYC guy who walked away over control issues is in control at the pro club. So it might be different.

That's true --- still curious to see how the ECNL / DA issues would shake out, and what the relationshiop would be.
BRYC spent a lot of time espousing how ENCL was a better path forward, and now they'd be changing midstream --- I'm sure they can justify it through some load of garbage, but I'd still love to hear the spiel.

It was a tough sell 2 years ago.

You would effectively be turning over control of your most talented players and teams to another entity. Now that BRYC has had a taste of some success in ECNL I would guess it will be an even tougher sell. DA still has a ways to go before it is head and shoulders more attractive than ECNL.

It seems odd that Spirit MD has had ID sessions already and Spirit VA has not. If there is any truth to these DA closure rumors they should let the current VA players know ASAP. Would really suck for them but at least have time to consider other options for next year!

The Spirit MD ID sessions were only for 2006/2007. MD is trying to fill some spots at the U13 age group. No ID sessions for the 2019/2020 season yet

Not that a BRYC/Spirit merger is in the works but if it is I think you are over thinking the ECNL/DA “issues”. Clubs change leagues all the time. PDA went back to ECNL, VDA changed from DA to ECNL on the girls side. Clubs change leagues, it just isn’t a big deal.

I don’t think a merger is happening but not because of a particular league.

Didn’t we just have an “ECNL all in” PR stunt across the country pushed by ECNL leadership? I dont see how official DA interaction at BRYC would make sense.

The new partnership.

Spirit would not be partnering with FC VA-they have their own DA program. Geographically too it doesn’t make sense as they are based in Loudoun and Spirit in Reston.

I have no clue if they are merging, but the geographic argument makes no sense. The fields 25, maybe 30 minutes apart tops. A lot of former Loudoun players are at Spirit and when Spirit players left Spirit, most of them left for Loudoun ECNL.
