When I dated a girl who's parents lived in a more rural area she always had some nice boankets laid out way out back at the edge of their property where you were hidden by corn husks and surrounding greenery.

We would go out for a mid day walk and shortly after she was getting her holiday joy.

Sheds, barns, out buildings. All great places to bend your girl over.

You could've gone down there, let them know the jig was up and could they move the party elsewhere if that's what they wanted to do. You acted like this fornication was occurring at an Amish house raising. It is really not that big of a deal. I would be pretty pissed and appalled if my 14 year old kid went down to the basement in MY house and saw something like that going on.

Yeah, if they are divorced who really cares. They are (presumably) consenting adults. Why make a huge deal out of it? What's more appalling is your gender segregated entertaining style. Women in the parlor, menfolk in the game room? I'd be more concerned about your 14 year old thinking that's okay.

Agree that they should have been discreet, and found a hotel later on, but the overreaction from you and your DH and the rest of the family, all that screaming and yelling, is much worse than what they did. Your DH calling his sister a slut in front of everybody? You forgetting your cooking? Parents screaming? What, did you just get of of the Mayflower and are about to burn the witches who are not up to your puritan standard? Your DD was the only one who handled it appropriately.

I have to agree. It's a hilarious story, and their lack of discretion was over the top, but your DH way overreacted! Calls his sister a slut and kicks her out? Was she raping your brother? His did not have to be handled this way.
Your 14 year old had enough tact and maturity to pull you to the side to tell you quietly what was happening, it's a shame that your husband didn't take a page out of her book.

Totally agree. No one is saying they should have pretended it never happened, but why make a scene? Obviously it's not even remotely ok that a 14-yr old girl saw that, and two adults should know better (at least lock the door!), but the reaction seems totally over the top and created unnecessary chaos. The name-calling is also gross. It doesn't help an upset teenage girl to hear her father screaming "slut" at his sister for having consensual sex, no matter how inappropriate the setting. And the sister's sexual history is totally irrelevant plus none of OP's (or her husband's) business!

No I'd go easy on the DH. He's hosting and this is how his sister treats his hospitality, totally embarrassing him with her behavior - probably drags up sibling history. And come on, that's really slutty. Does she never say no?
