I know almost all of the families with kids my kid's age. This school also takes inboundary kids from east of our neighborhood. Most of the kids that go there are from that neighborhood, which is considerably less gentrified. (this is not a race issue. there are many AA families in my part of the neighborhood, and like the white families, they too send their kids to charters.) There is literally NOBODY on our list serve that sends their kids to that school for kindergarten. Of course, the list serve skews toward the higher socio economic families, but it is otherwise very diverse. They send their kids everywhere but the inbound school. Some try it for PS3 and PS4, but they ALL switch for/before K. |
This! Don't despair! Got in no where year one. Got in everywhere year 2. Things get better! |
Are you the parent whose IB is Walker Jones? Did you apply for J.O. or Ludlow-Taylor? They both usually have OOB K spots. |
Or: Got in nowhere for PK3 Got in nowhere for PK4 and now... nowhere for K. Yep, that's how it happens. |
Hopefully Walker Jones - a few of us parents who were shut out this year are planning on going to WJ for next year. We hope to see you there. |
For the poster who said follow up with Bridges--It seems unethical of the schools to select students off the waitlist out of order. I really hope that is not happening. |
This is year number 2 of us not getting in anywhere.
We have a backup for this year. But next year, if we get in no where, we will seriously consider moving. |
So you already know that this year, most of the families with kids your kid's age have gotten into a spot other than your IB school? Your list serve must have been busy this morning! Well, I'm sorry that you're the only family in the neighborhood that didn't get into another place. Do you know if any of the other kindergartener families will be declining their spots? I already know of a few families declining spots at my IB school. |
The poster who wants Bridges has a SN student, so I would hope that there is some way for their child to get into a school that specializes in providing services for SN kids. I wouldn't think it's unethical in that case. |
No, I already know that very few neighborhood families with kindergartners were playing the lottery - in fact, I only know one other and their plan was private if they didn't get lucky. All the dozens of other K kids are already at charters they love or have moved or are planning to move. But mainly, at charters that they love. |
Applied to 12 schools for PK-3 and didn't get in anywhere. No higher than #25 on any wait list (and that one was our 11th choice). Have no back-up plan. So disappointed. |
So what does that mean? Is your kid currently in a nanny share, or are you a SAHM? |
Francis Stevens is an in-bound school for us, does that mean that if we put it as option 1 for Round 2 we will be wait listed ahead of those who applied in Round 1 but were waitlisted because they are not inbound? At this point we are hoping for Garrison, but we are OOB and I have no idea how the wait list will move this year. Thanks for any clarifications, I am lost and confused -besides being frustrated and depressed. |
Really? We are inbound for Garrison. What do you like about it? We need to consider whether we go there or one of our other inbound schools. (For K we have a spot as a matter of right). |
No, you are behind everyone who applied in round 1. If this is for PK3, I think you basically have no chance--we are something like 120 at SWW@F-S (out of bounds) in round 1. Good luck. |
