Really depressed because we have no other option.

will you consider moving to burbs?

DD is of above average intelligence. She needs a more challenging environment than the preschool she currently attends -hoping something will work out for round 2, but it's depressing.
I understand the lottery's intention is to be fair to all. But I would have been more comfortable "losing" if she had competed for a place instead of just having a number drawn on her behalf.
And no, unfortunately private school is not an option -we can't afford it.

Nowhere, for the 3rd year in a row. Our only option is moving.

well, regardless of intelligence, all kids deserve better options and not to have to deal with this lottery business. not sure what you are getting at, that they should have a test-in K?

after 1 year getting zilch, I wonder if this will be us in the future, or whether out IB DCPS will keep improving so we want to stay.

How come people never talk about financial aid as an option?

you mean for private school? depends on your priorities for retirement and college savings, but I think you have to ravage your savings to qualify.

A lot of families on here make too much money to qualify for financial aid but not enough money to live here and pay for a 30k a year school

Also, you have to get in! It is almost as tough as the lottery FYI from someone who has BTDT.

Anonymous wrote:Wow we didn't get in to any of our 12. We really wanted Bridges (our child has special needs) and I was for some reason feeling good that we would get in there. I suppose still possible since they did go through their whole wait list for PK3 last year (right?) but I guess there's no way to know if that will happen again this year.

Our wait list #s are:
Bridges 142
EL Haynes 181
Appletree Columbia Heights 97
Tubman 109
Two Rivers 384
Inspired Teaching 244
School Within School 315
HD Cooke 36
Meridian PCS 19
Garrison 27
Bancroft 4 (in boundary preference)
Marie Reed 66

If I were you, I would go to a Bridges open house coming up and talk to the staff about your kid and your wait list number and see if you have any chance. I know they got into the 100s last year. I had a number in the 90s and got accepted in late May, so I think there is hope. Tell them if they end up having a spot for you, you definitely will take it, that you will bring your enrollment paperwork in within 24 hours. Try to talk to the person who personally manages the waitlist (last year it was admin assistant Kristel Guzman), let her know how you could make her life easy by filing a spot. And keep calling every few weeks throughout the summer to check in with her. These waitlists don't always go strictly by the numbers and with a SN kid, you really should try to work the system there.

No. Not an option. Like I said we have no other option.

I wonder if there's a way to find out the percentage of applicants who didn't get in anywhere? To give some perspective.

definitely. For many financial aid means lowish interest loan.

Sorry you had bad luck with the lottery. You'll have to enroll in your IB kindergarten class, right?
