WOH parents with 3.5yo and 16mo. We don't own a TV, but once my mom watched Nemo with the 3yo. And it would never occur to me to go to McD's. Kids have never eaten there. But we do have Chick Fil A milkshakes every couple months or so and 3yo and I share. |
SAHM -- two boys (28 months, 6 months). RARELY McDonald's...DS has had fries from there I believe. I will try NOT to eat there after seeing the documentary Food Inc.
TV is another story. DS1 watches cartoons during breakfast (30-45 minutes). Watches TV again in the evening during the witching hour. Sometimes the TV is on during the day, but he can focus his play and not attend to the TV (thankfully). I am definitely using TV more since DS2 arrived. |
4.5 year old twins, 1 year old.
TV almost never, maybe an hour a month? Mcdonalds maybe once every 2-3 months if that. Was every week for awhile but we're in a different preschool this year and don't drive past the Mcdonalds daily. Out of sight, out of mind. |
We don't do McDonald's and never will. It's against everything I stand for, really. I try to be laid back but hate that corporation for many reasons. In all honesty, we don't eat out of the house that much save for my Starbucks addiction and we will order from a good pizza delivery place near us every couple of weeks.
TV in moderation - we work so no TV during the week is easy; TV on weekends is 30 minutes in the morning, and in winter some in the afternoon since we are stuck inside so much ![]() |
3 and 5 years old.
"Movie night" every Sat. night- about 45-60 minutes and sometimes 15-20 one or two AM's a week when DH is gone and I am getting ready for work. Not because I don't want/allow them too...but because they would rather play with each other. McD's- 3-4 times a year- while on vacation- THAT is because we don't allow them to |
We don't have a McDonald's/fast food schedule but we probably wind up somewhere every few weeks. I have no problem with it on occassion, depending on where we are, what we are doing, what is convenient, etc. And I'm not going to pretend like my kid only gets the apples. She gets chicken nuggets and fries.
She is in daycare during the day and doesn't watch TV, but she gets to watch cartoons for an hour or so in the mornings on the weekend. |
i believe all of you, but this just reinforces my opinion that people here are SO out of touch. Every time I go to McDonalds they are packed with families and kids of all ages, and their financials support this.

If you think starbucks is less of an evil corporation than mcD's, you're kidding yourself.
Two kids, 2 & 4. Tv: >2 hours per day, dvr'd PBS shows or DVDs fast food: once every week or so but it's rarely mcdonald's, 90% of the time chick fil a. |
No McDonald's, unless Grandma does it (three or four times a year).
TV had gotten pretty bad. We finally had to institute absolutely no-TV-on-schooldays policy. No we're down to a couple of hours every weekend. The best solution seems to be to over-schedule the weekends, leaving little time for TV. |
No McD's. Although, I bought chicken McNuggets last week for DC's science project.
TV - about 1/2-1 hour a day. But somedays they watch a 2hr movie and somedays they never turn it on. |
TV - Sat and Sun only, about an hour each day.
McD's - probably 3 times/month, with burger and fries being the meal. we also eat out other places each week like pizza and chicken out or California tortilla. |
2.25 year old twins. No TV except about an hour a day when we visit grandma and grandpa out of state (about 3 times a year). No mcDonalds ever. But Chipotle about once a week for lunch on the weekends. Though, while Chipotle isn't Health Food it is not junk-fast food like McDonalds. |
SAHM with 2 kids, 6 and 3. 6 year-old watches .5-1 hour on weekdays, probably 2-3 on weekends. Of course, if she goes to a friend's house and the parent puts on a show or a movie she watches more (and this really really pisses me off...). 3 year-old watches about 1.5-2 hours a day and more on weekends.
McD's is a special treat. Probably works out to 5-6 times a year. |
FYI, mcdonald's owns chipolte. |
My three-year-old usually watches half an hour to an hour of tv a day. Sometimes none, sometimes 2 hours on a weekend. McDonalds only if we're on a road trip. |
