I think all moms lie to each other about this. Let's be honest. It's anonymous. I'll go first.
(Kids are 5 and 3) TV -- 5 year old gets 1-2 hours per day while 3 year old is napping. On weekends, they both watch some morning cartoons while DH and I try fruitlessly to keep sleeping. Sometimes this goes on for 2 hours. McDs -- every other friday. We look forward to it, even me. |
No McD, hour of TV on weekends only, kids are 3.5 and 6 |
2.5 year old. an hour in the morning in bed with me, an hour in the evening with dh while i cook.
mcd every other week too |
I have a 4 year old. No McDonalds (gross) and no TV. I would love for her to watch some TV but she has zero interest (I know, crazy). Sigh. |
We haven't had McDs since DS' post-Little League party last summer (June).
TV -- none on school nights. Weekends includes movie night and watching shows we have recorded on DVR. Total movie/DVR time is about 5 to 6 hours over a two-day weekend. Kids are 7 years and 9 years. |
SAHM w/ kids 4 and 1. Older child gets the occasional half-hour as a treat, plus watches basketball or football w/ dad on weekends. No TV for younger child.
About once a month in the summer we'll hit the Golden Arches for fries and sweet tea (me) and ice cream (kid #1). Guess I'll have to include kid #2 this time around. |
SAHM, kids 7 and 4. No McDonalds ever--I have nothing against it, it's just not our style. Kids watch about an hour-long video most days, not every day, maybe 5 days a week. Occasional movie night, and occasionally they will watch two videos, but usually, about an hour a day.

4 year old. 1 hour tv daily, McD every other Saturday. |
2 working parents. DD is 3.5.
1 hour of TV a day on weekdays - half an hour in the morning while we get ready for work, and half an hour in the evening while I cook/clean up etc. A little more (maybe 2 hours total) on weekends. McD is once a month, if that. We just went this past weekend, but the prior time was early December. |
2.5 year old. About an hour a day. Sometimes a little more depending on how bad of day I've had at work. |
McDonalds (or other fast food) roughly weekly, tv daily, but it varies how much - sometimes 1/2 hour, sometimes 2 hours. Getting better about the McDonalds though, we're now moving towards every 10 days to 2 weeks. ![]() |
Some TV (Disney movies, Baby First TV) and absolutely no McDonalds ... EVER. |
Five kids. McDonalds once a week on "Fry-Day". The older kids probably go way more often. Three of my five drive.
TV? I have no idea. As long as their grades are good and their chores get completed, I don't care. I do monitor what my youngest watches. But I have no idea what my teenagers watch. Oldest is on a full ROTC scholarship in college. I have a senior graduating this year. 3.7 GPA. He is going to college on a scholorship as well. My daughter is a junior. She easily qualifies as a National Merit Scholar and scored the second highest in her school on the PSAT. The jury is still out on the younger two. But so far, so good. Not bragging. Just simply showing that you don't have to be an uptight parent to raise healthy, happy, smart kids. |
2.5 year old and 10 month old. No TV here at all and definitely no McDonald's. There have been times when I would've liked the toddler to watch some Sesame Street but for whatever reason, she's not interested in TV at all. We're vegetarians so we don't eat McDonald's anyways. |
Fast food about every other month but sometimes we go longer stretches. Tv Almost every day. Weekdays they watch half an hour while I make dinner. Weekends vary. Sometimes we watch a movie. Sometimes more sometimes less. Kids are 4 and 6. |
