Are you even 30 years old???

I'm a guy, what do you expect? and yes, over 30. now I am picturing some foxy and limber tiger mom .... oh well.

I'm a MILF, baby. I'd rather have sex 7 nights a week than watch TV. Seriously.

No fast food or tv for DS. And DS doesn't watch tv at daycare. If I SAH, DS would probably watch some. All the kids I know whose parents SAH watch a TON of tv.

Eh, maybe some of the SAHM. My mom stayed home with me and while I remember watching a few shows (Mister Rogers, Pinwheel) the tv also went "off" at certain times. I had no trouble reading, making up games, or playing independently.

The question people aren't asking is, do you always cook healthy, low-fat food at home. Just b/c someone cooks all the meals, that doesn't mean it is always healthier than options at a fast food place.

I find that now that I'm a SAH the food I prepare my family is much better. TV watching's the same - minimal

Agree that homemade doesn't always mean healthy but typically if you are cooking, it will have less sodium and other crap than at a restaurant. The research supports this as well. For me, I am very particular about where our dairy and poultry comes from, and about what ingredients we use. Low fat is not always healthy - your body needs healthy fats. What we strive for is to be able to recognize all ingredients - rather than open a box of food that has a bunch of ingredients you can pronounce or recognize. I just think for the most part if you are cooking and serving you are doing much better than McDonalds.

But it's not like we cook with a bunch of butter or salt nor do we fry anything. We both WOHM, we just make meal planning a priority. Between the two of us it really doesn't take that much time. Certainly less of a hassle than getting in the car and driving to McDonalds which is the last thing I'd want to do after getting home from work.

My 5yo DD watches nickelodeon after bath time and while i am cooking her dinner. I would say 30 min to 1 hour on weekdays. Almost none on weekends (we have better things to do, go to the park, walks, museums, play, etc). She scored 95% at her WPPSI so I do not think it is to much.
We never go to McD. She does not know what McD is and she does not care.
DH and I like McD but we know it is not a healthy choice. I would say we go once a year (twice top). Mostly at road trips for a quick bite.

When my kids were little, McDs about once a week, TV about 2 or 3 hours/day, PBS or "educational". Now, no TV during week, McDs once or twice per month.

90% of all children in the US go to McDonald's once a month or more often. Totally shocking and horrible. My kids go about 4 times a year.

While my son has neverhad McDonald's and DH and I eat it once or twice a year (on roadtrips), I don't really thinkanything once per month can be that bad. Much more than that, maybe, but once per month ... eh, doesn't sound too horrible to me.

Agree. My son has never had McD's but once a month is not a big deal, IMO.

TV? I have no idea. As long as their grades are good and their chores get completed, I don't care. I do monitor what my youngest watches. But I have no idea what my teenagers watch.

Oldest is on a full ROTC scholarship in college.

I have a senior graduating this year. 3.7 GPA. He is going to college on a scholorship as well.

My daughter is a junior. She easily qualifies as a National Merit Scholar and scored the second highest in her school on the PSAT.

The jury is still out on the younger two. But so far, so good.

Not bragging. Just simply showing that you don't have to be an uptight parent to raise healthy, happy, smart kids.

Congratulations. I've always believed that there was a direct correlation between the amount of tv watched and grades. So if you ever find out how much your kids actually watched, do supplement your post!

We almost never go to McD's. We're a Chick Fil A family, and we probably go there once a month. As for TV, we watch way too much. Two hours a day maybe.

McDs at least once a week, and tv, a few hours here and there. In between, outdoor play, inside play, games, puzzles, books, etc. Not one of those strict homes where tv is turned off until kid goes to bed.
