The nutrition in a Chipotle burrito is no better than a big mack and large fries. Look it up. |
Yep, and they aren't eating the oatmeal and apple dippers. |
Seriously, who are you people? "My mom let my kid watch Nemo once" and the mom who only ever set foot in McD's for a science project.... are you all living on some commune of hypercompetitive parenting? All this sanctimony would be funny except that you all take yourselves totally seriously don't you? I'm sure you PPs who fessed up to 15 minutes per day of TV are feeling suitably chastened and have swapped out the television for a stack of practice SATs for the kids to enjoy.

I think I can say with all honesty that I didn't think these types of parents actually existed. I've heard about them. But to see real parents posting about it is really creepy. I can see the future for these kids...and it isn't bright. I have older kids. I've seen what happens to the kids who are over-controlled and deprived of junk food, television, etc..... They are the kids that go completely nuts when they get their first taste of freedom. |
amen. pass the fries. I'm sitting here watching FoxNews and guessing that isn't too common here either, despite the highest ratings on cable. |
DC is 3.
No TV, no DVDs, the occasional kiddie song on YouTube. McDonalds or similar (Taco Bell, Wendy's etc.) about once a month. Chipotle or similar (Moe's, Baja Fresh etc.) once or twice a month. BTW, I may be wrong about this, but I feel like we make better choices for DC at Chipotle/Moes/Baja Fresh than at McD's etc. The mexican places usually mean rice, beans, cheese, tomato salsa and some meat for DC. It's definitely high in sodium, but there's also a little extra protein/fiber in the beans and tomatos. Plus, no fries!! (DC doesn't really like more than a few bites of chips.) For adults, I can see the argument that Chipotle is just as bad as McD's when it comes to total calorie count and sodium intake, basically because of the huge portions. But if you go more minimal (two tacos instead of a big burrito), and skip the cheese, sour cream and chips (and add beans for fiber), you likely come out ahead compared to a Big Mac and fries. |
Why on earth does it bother you so much that families prefer healthy, unprocessed food? Ever heard of chicken paste? The ick factor to fast food keeps me and my family away, so what? I couldn't care less if you and your kids eat it and I reall |
Kids are 6 and 3.
TV a hour or so a day, but only 1/2 hour of "kiddie" programs. The rest is the news, if we are watching it, or maybe a sporting game. No McDonald's, ever. And they've only had soda once in their entire lives, when we were at a ball game and they had sold out of bottled water. They were amused by the fizzy taste. |
Mmmmmmmm Chicken paste! I'll have a ten piece meal, supersized...with a coke! |
Yes, and the people at suburban McDonald's are fatter than your average DC resident. |
Word. |
Get ready for a teenager who cares about nothing beyond brand names, boy bands and suburban shopping malls. You're raising a real intellectual. |
Life is easy when they are little. Things rachet up when they get bigger. Three kids - 13, 11, 9
No tv during the week simply because by the time they are finished with afterschool sports and clubs and then homework there's no time. Weekends they can watch when they want. Usually a movie or something but they are pretty much on the run a lot. McDonald's - maybe every 10 days or so. Keeping it real here - I work 35 hrs/week and husband travels 3 days/week so I'm the sole chauffeur for daily activities starting right after school. Our days of pot roast and baked potatoes on the table at 5:30 pm are long gone. We have exactly 1 hour from 5:45-6:45 on Thursdays between hockey, dance and piano returning home at 9:30 pm. Rink pizza gets old. |
Yes, this will definitely happen from going to McDonald's and watching Dora. I grew up on cartoons and they almost didn't issue me my master's degree because of it. |
People like you make my skin crawl. You're SO much better than everyone else, aren't you? Your kids are so much smarter and healthier and better at everything aren't they? The guy was being honest and you have to take a dig at him with how much better of a parent you are. I would rather have the poster above as my parent than you any day. At least with him, I would have a little bit of fun in life. It is childhood after all. And BTW, my parents never limited the amount of junk food I consumed nor the TV that I watched as a kid and I am fine. Went to grad school at a top 20 school and graduated with a 4.0. And, I am 5'9" and weigh 135lbs----and I had a baby 3 months ago. In fact, I was in McDonald's today---IN THE SUBURBS---and didn't order the apple dippers or the oatmeal. But I still fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans tonight. |
