Adverse reaction to flu shot 2010?

I was surprised to find so many pro-vaccine replies here. There are plenty of websites where people report the horrible reactions they've had from the flu shot. Myself, you couldn't pay me to get a flu vaccine -- not for a million-and-a-half dollars. My husband, however, is the sort who does everything the doctor tells him, and he got his flu shot 3 days ago (even though I advised him not to and told him he'd owe me $20 bucks if he got sick from it). Within a couple of hours he had a headache and was sick to his stomach. Last night he got diarrhea and nothing but liquid was coming out. Today, a massive headache and sick stomach again. My grandpa got the H1N1 vaccine last year (along with all the other paranoid bandwagon-jumpers) and had a really bad reaction to it -- I can't remember all the details, but I know he had to go to the doctor and was diagnosed with some pretty serious thing, and they told him it was a reaction to his shot. I think anyone who gets a flu vaccine is crazy. Which is worse, taking the slight risk that you'll get the flu (a couple of days with a runny nose, coughing or vomiting -- big deal), or put yourself at risk for the many serious potential side-effects and reactions? Half the time the flu vaccine GIVES you the flu. My mother-in-law got hers a few weeks ago and started losing her voice and had a runny nose and a cough afterward for a week or more. If it's going to make you sick anyway, aren't you better off taking your chances with MAYBE getting the flu? I haven't gotten my shot (and I won't, thank you very much) and I'm the only one in our house who hasn't gotten sick this year.
I've been online researching flu reactions today -- which is how I ended up on this site -- because of my husband's sickness since his vaccine. I found some people's posting who had the same reaction as him; many other people said they were hospitalized and almost died from different complications. The woman on here who said she got the flu vaccine while pregnant -- I just shuddered. Don't trust doctors on everything -- when it comes to prescriptions and vaccines they only know what the drug companies tell them (which, it seems, usually turns out to be a half-truth or outright false). All the time I see TV commercials for lawsuits and settlements due to the horrible complications people have had from different medications. If you take a medication that's new on the market, you're making yourself a guinea pig, plain and simple. Thanks, but I think I'll avoid becoming one of the statistics because I let a doctor prescribe me every new drug that comes out. Hope this helps anyone. If the potential complications from a drug or vaccine are worse than the thing you're trying to treat, then it's a no-brainer that it's better to take your chances on the illness. |

THis is ridiculous. Aluminum was studied as a potential cause of alzheimers in the 80's because of the prevalence of aluminum cookware. It was eliminated as a cause decades ago. Do you think that the scientists were in the pocket of Big Cookware? And regardless of what you think of mercury in vaccines, you get almost all of the mercury in your lifetime through the foods you ingest. So the idea that vaccines make a difference in the total accumulation of a 60 year old is absurd on its face. This is a great example of how Internet science fails us. Everything, no matter how crazy, is posted somewhere on the Internet. And people find the information sources which already agree with them. They read something, it confirms their biases, and they post - all without ever looking around even the slightest bit to validate it. |

And I should also have added that the guy had his medical license suspended for abusing Ambien and other prescription drugs, and for writing drug prescriptions for non-patients. |

Ingesting is much, much different than having a shit-load of it pumped directly into your circulatory system with direct access to the brain. When it is ingested, it has a fighting chance of being eliminated without being absorbed. When pumped into the body via vaccine, it's all in your body, and it doesn't come out. When Thimerisol was studied, they never took any measurements of how the mercury was being eliminated by the bloodstream. Years later we know that it crossed the blood brain barrier and settled into the organs and tissues of the body. |

A new study confirms yet again what many prior studies have shown [see list at end], that ‘flu vaccination is largely ineffective [despite what Government "health" officials want you to believe - but where of course will they be looking for their next job when they retire at 50 on generous government pensions]: Jefferson T, et al. Using the US Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), including updates through July 11, 2010 as a second ascertainment source, capture-recapture statistical methods were used to estimate the true number of miscarriages and stillbirths following A-H1N1 flu vaccination in the U.S. Julie Gerberding head of the US Centres for Disease Control – budget US$11 billion – the US agency charged with promoting vaccines [CDC] following her removal by President Obama went directly to become vaccine maker Merck’s Director of Vaccines Division in December 2009: Dr. Julie Gerberding Named President of Merck Vaccines – 21 Dec 2009 – Merck & Co., Inc. Here’s a plain language summary of the Oxford based Cochrane Collaboration recent study in the authors’ own words: Over 200 viruses cause influenza and influenza-like illness which produce the same symptoms (fever, headache, aches and pains, cough and runny noses). Without laboratory tests, doctors cannot tell the two illnesses apart. Both last for days and rarely lead to death or serious illness. At best, vaccines might be effective against only influenza A and B, which represent about 10% of all circulating viruses. Each year, the World Health Organization recommends which viral strains should be included in vaccinations for the forthcoming season. Authors of this review assessed all trials that compared vaccinated people with unvaccinated people. The combined results of these trials showed that under ideal conditions (vaccine completely matching circulating viral configuration) 33 healthy adults need to be vaccinated to avoid one set of influenza symptoms. In average conditions (partially matching vaccine) 100 people need to be vaccinated to avoid one set of influenza symptoms. Vaccine use did not affect the number of people hospitalised or working days lost but caused one case of Guillian-Barré syndrome (a major neurological condition leading to paralysis) for every one million vaccinations. Fifteen of the 36 trials were funded by vaccine companies and four had no funding declaration. Our results may be an optimistic estimate because company-sponsored influenza vaccines trials tend to produce results favorable to their products and some of the evidence comes from trials carried out in ideal viral circulation and matching conditions and because the harms evidence base is limited. The authors warn that industry-funded studies are more likely to be unreliable but be published in prestigious journals and cited more frequently than more reliable independent studies. Here’s what they say: WARNING: This review includes 15 out of 36 trials funded by industry (four had no funding declaration). An earlier systematic review of 274 influenza vaccine studies published up to 2007 found industry funded studies were published in more prestigious journals and cited more than other studies independently from methodological quality and size. Studies funded from public sources were significantly less likely to report conclusions favorable to the vaccines. The review showed that reliable evidence on influenza vaccines is thin but there is evidence of widespread manipulation of conclusions and spurious notoriety of the studies. This article says that you are four times less likely to get the flu if you are vaccinated in a year with good viral matches, and two times less likely to get influenza in a year when there is a poor match. And it says that the evidence of harm from the vaccine is limited. Isn't that a good thing?

No it's not. We have already measured blood levels as a result of ingestion. And we excrete metals that are in the bloodstream, all the time. You are a nonscientist making wild guesses, but you don't know squat. BTW when you take vitamins, which include metals like iron and zinc, what do you think happens to them? They go into your bloodstream. Duh. Is that not obvious to you? Iron? Blood? |

Thimerisal was removed from most childhood vaccines because of studies done on methylmercury, the type of mercury found in fish. When ethylmercury (thimerosal) was studied, it was found to have a significantly shorter half-life in the body (18 days) than the stuff you eat (72 days). The mercury in a vaccine is FAR less dangerous than eating tuna. |
