Adverse reaction to flu shot 2010?

Anonymous
My coworker got the shot and 3 days later was out sick - he has pnemonia. Now I'm afraid to get the shot. Anyone have the shot yet this year? Did you have any bad reaction or is everything ok? My kids are scheduled for flumist on Saturday -- I just want to be sure...

My husband, daughter and I were all immunized against the flu last weekend. A first for all three of us. (My daughter and I have had the H1N1 vaccine in the past but never the regular flu vaccine. My husband has never gotten a flu shot, whether regular or H1N1). Everyone is doing just fine. And I am in my 38th week of pregnancy. I got the thimerosal-free injection and my husband daughter got the mist.

I don't see how one gets pneumonia from a flu shot. They are two different things.

I agree with this. We got the flu shot two weeks ago and have been fine. It's not unusual to get an upper respiratory infection after a nasal flu vaccine, but that's the only common illness I know that's associated with vaccine (and the reason we don't get Flu Mist).

Question: where did you get your thimerosal-free shot? I'm pregnant and neither my primary nor midwife's office has that version. Thx.

Not only can you not get pneumonia from a flu shot, I find it hard to believe you could develop it in 3 days. Also, the injection is DEactivated flu, unlike the FluMist. So if you have any concerns, the injection would be the smarter way to go.

I am not the poster but can answer this question. When I was pregnant last year, I got my thimesoral-free flu shot at CVS. You have to ask the ppl in the back about it.

Thank you both, this is very helpful! My GP suggested CVS, so I went to a local CVS and the pharm tech insisted they didn't have it and it wasn't possible to get it. I will phone to speak to a pharmacist or try a different CVS.

PP here. Read more closely and see lots of suggestions for where to get the no thimerosal shot. Thanks all, that's why I love DCUM!

I had a reaction to the seasonal flu shot last year but had no problem with H1N1. 2 days after the seasonal shot I had 102 fever and chills. Lasted 24 hrs. I was in my first trimester. Have had many flu shots in the past with no problem. I'm planning to get it this year but will do it on a Thursday in case of a reaction (so I can be sick over the weekend!).

You cannot get the flu from the flu vaccine. Your body can react with fever but if you start coughing and sneezing it's an unrelated cold.
