Adverse reaction to flu shot 2010?

Anonymous
My wife and I got the flu shot. I get mine every year and am fine. This is my wife's first year getting it (because we want to have a baby this year) and starting the day after the shot, she has had almost 4 days of high fever 102-103, coughs and body aches. Needless to say, she won't be getting the shot next year.

It really depends on the person, not the vaccine itself. It is not, as the CDC says, for everyone. The best thing to do is get the shot but if you have a really bad reaction, you can opt out the next year.

Yesterday morning I got a flu shot. My first time getting one. By late afternoon I felt like I was getting ill.
By 6pm I felt awful. I went to lay down, before I could make it into bed I got the "chills" and started shaking so badly it sent my glasses flying off my face halfway across the room.
I got into bed to try to warm up, still shivering and shaking more like convulsions. It became hard to breathe, I was short of breath. When my wife came into the room she tried to get me to go to the hospital. I was dazed and sort of semi-conscious. I kept saying "I'll be ok, I can't get up now." She called 911 and paramedics arrived. By that time I was not aware of what was happening.
They "hooked me up" to their equipment and ran me through the tests. I had a fever and my blood pressure was up.
It did not seem life-threatening, so I convinced them to leave me in bed (I HATE hospitals) and if anythying happened or got worse we'd go straight there (1/2mi. away.)
Woke up at 2PM today, still feeling awful, but on the mend. Coincidence? I don't think so.
Anyway that is my experience...

Maybe it's a blessing in disguise. If that's what dead virus did to you, imagine what could have happened if you actually caught the same strain, but live.

First time ever taking a flu shot. Got it at 7 pm on a Tuesday night and by 3pm Wednesday I had severe chills, elevated blood pressure that came with an unbearable headache and uncontrollable shaking. I could not get warm even with two hooded sweat shirts on in front of a fireplace. Also I had a fever of about 102 and constantly felt like vomiting.
Could hardly sleep at all that night and awoke Thursday with the same symptoms along with profuse sweating and no appetite. I had to miss work on Thursday. After going to sleep Thursday night I awoke on Friday morning with very few of the symptoms other than a slight headache. I'm 60 years old, in pretty good health, have not had as much as a slight cold in the past five years. I felt fine prior to getting the shot. It is something I will never ever do again. I was told there would be no side effects as this was not the "actual live virus". Sure felt like it to me. I'm going to continue taking my vitamins (garlic, fish oil, C, D and and a low dose aspirin along with a Centrum Silver and take my damn chances.
That stupid shot made me feel worse than I've ever felt in over twenty years. (not to mention it threw a serious cramp in the romance department for three days and I'm not having that) I got the shot because of all of the hype, but for me it stunk and made me feel like I was damn near dying. I will never intentionally let someone inject me with that madness again!

My wife and I got out first flu shots in years. My wife's arm (of the shot) was sore for three days. On the second night she had symptoms of the Flu, ache muscles, sore throat, stuffy nose, By the next day she had, virtually all symptoms of the flu. We had to cancel our annual visit to our grandkids. After three day she is recovering. This may be our last flu shots.

I got the flu shot on October 14th. After suffering from a couple of days of pain in whatever muscles I exercised, I became extremely tired and chilled. I took the next day off of work and after a nap, developed hives all over my body. This lasted for four days until a dermatalogist put me on Zyrtec, Zantac, and Prednisone. One more week of lighheadedness, tingling in my left hand and an increased blood pressure and then I felt OK. Two weeks later I developed a pain in my left groin area and more bad lightheadedness. The pain in my groin seemed to move around my leg, even going into my foot and causing a good deal of discomfort. Now I have nausea and a major decrease in appetite. My blood pressure has raised about 15 points and I basically fell like this is taking over.

Just got the shot yesterday and it is kicking my butt today...

Lethargy and pretty bad aches and pains...enough for me to google "adverse reactions to this year's flu shots" and find this forum....

My sister got the flu shot and 2 days later was suffering from migraine-like headaches. By 4 days later she was hospitalized with a stroke. Luckily she works in a hospital and was on duty at the time. The next day she had a second "stroke". These turned out to be episodes of temporary paralysis. She suffered several more episodes of this over the next week with decreasing frequency and duration. Now some 3 weeks into this she is unable to work. Still suffering from severe back and abdominal pain and is on a regement of Vicodin, Muscle Relaxers and has had a series of cordizone shots. All testing, MRI, CAT scan, Carotid, EKG, bloodwork have come back clean. Doctor today ordered more tests. Discovered in our search this evening that a rare reaction to the flu shot is Guillain-Barre syndrome ... one in a million and causes temporary paralysis. That will be our next discussion with the doctors.

I refuse to be a guinea pig. CDC can kiss it.

I'm not trying to be insensitive, but if she had a stroke, she had a stroke. That's a vascular failure, and they can actually see it. GBS is an autoimmune disorder that affects the peripheral nervous system. I see how you might see paralysis and think GBS, but GBS and strokes are two entirely different systems, and they are at opposite ends of the body.

My husband got the flu shot some 2 months ago. Since that time he has been sufferring with severe headaches and neck pain. After multiple visits to his regular physician and MRI, CAT scan, prescriptions for steroids and pain killers and no improvement, he has now moved on to a neurologist. We have added severe indigestion, and shortness of breath to the list. He is in severe pain and some nights sleeps in a chair to find comfort. His regiment is now Vicodin, muscle relaxers and a series of cortizone shots. (same as the previous entry). A nerve test and physical therapy have also now been added.

The earlier entry by the young lady with the temporary paralysis happens to be my sister. With both my sister and husband now suffering, I consider this more than a coincidence. In my research this evening (reaction of Guillain-Barre syndrome)and reviewing the reaction last year experienced by the Washington cheerleader (severe Dystonia symptoms), that will be our next discussion with the neurologist.

I have NEVER gotten a flu shot nor have my girls and we never will.

I should have been clearer. The hospital physician staff including neurologist confirmed that there was NO stroke. All testing came back clear including MRI, CAT scan, etc. They had "no explanation for the multiple episodes of temporary paralysis.

I'm so sorry!! I live everyday with the consequences of vaccine damage...my son is now autistic due to vaccines. I hope you can find healing for your family members. I would highly suggest looking into chelation with Alpha Lipoic Acid and DMSA. Removing the heavy metal damage is what cured Desiree Jennings and many other vaccine-damaged individuals. If you seek out an osteopath, they may have some good chelation advice for you. You can also research "Andy Cutler PRotocol" and do it yourself. Never stop researching and asking questions. No one's answer is good enough...not unless it satisfies your sense of what is right.

As a nurse I can tell you that in fact you can get pneumonia from the flu shot. You can also get the flu/cold. It's called a side effect or an adverse reaction. If you look at the maunfacturers literature as I just did you will find it listed there. I always get a flu shot and have never had a problem until this year. I have had a sore throat and upper respiratory infection as a direct result of an adverse reaction to the shot. Adverse reactions can happen with any medicine. Even one you taken many times before. Your body has so many variables there is no way to take into account everyone of them. So side effects are just a chance you take. Because I have felt bad for a week and I will be off work two days this week because of it I probably won't take the flu shot again now that I could be prone to side effects.
