But there are also lots of other coronaviruses in China. SARS and MERs are also coronaviruses. People who live near bat caves in China become infected with various coronaviruses, just depends on which ones get out. COVID was not the first coronavirus pandemic to come out of China and certainly will not be the last either. |

DP to add, I also think a lab leak is possible. But the difference here is that Republicans are matter of fact convinced that it was a lab leak. And frankly, realistically, we will never know. |

It is just a political appeal to the MAGA base. The CIA report indicated low confidence determination (ie the evidence, of which there is nothing new, is weak and/or self-contradictory) with no new data But MAGA reads "low confidence" and "no new data" as "it is absolutely a lab leak!" and will hear nothing else. Which really is just evidence of a basic lack of critical thinking. |

Don’t rewrite history. Many people pointed to the now discredited 2020 proximal origin article that indicated that a genetic sequencing of the virus “showed” it wasn’t manmade. Trump and his loons were saying China intentionally unleashed a virus to keep Trump from winning the 2020 election. That was a stupid conspiracy theory, and people pointed that out.
The CIA has given a low confidence report that it could have possibly been accidentally leaked by a lab. This was discussed in 2020 and beyond. It’s not proof to the scapegoat-happy crazy stories are correct. This is literally what we already knew. |

+1 This report still does not translate into "IT IS CONCLUSIVE!" It has always been a possibility. There are also other possibilities given China is a hot bed for other coronaviruses in general. The early science did not support it initially. Still a possibility and we could all stew over it for centuries but realistically, it will never be conclusively determined. The end. |
