I think its only wrong for some people. I love coffee and caffeine but it doesn’t work for me. Even at half a cup per day I have stage 2 high blood pressure. Remove the 1/2-1 cup per day and my blood pressure is normal. For me its the difference between my doc requiring me to take bp meds (which I’ve tried)or not having to take anything at all. The second thing I’ve noticed is that coffee impacts my cholesterol numbers. Again, I’m normal to boderline without and just high enough to consider meds with it. For me, cutting coffee means I don't have to take any meds. My skin and hair look noticeably better without it too. |

I love the taste of coffee!
I don’t want to take over thread but think this target audience. I’ve tried Teaccino, Celestial Seasonings Roastarama, and Trader Joe’s coffee substitute sachets. I have yet to find anything that tastes like coffee. Any recommendations? |
After years of being decaf, I am back on regular coffee. Apparently, caffeinated coffee is good for the liver. |
NP. Interesting about the blood pressure issue. I’m currently starting the DASH diet to try to reduce my bp naturally, which for me is to cut way back on sodium, since I eat pretty healthy already. But if that alone doesn’t work over the next 4 months, maybe I’ll try giving up caffeine. I currently only drink one cup each day, so not a heavy user, but if you say even half a cup affects you, then maybe it’s also something that could affect me. Thanks for the food for thought! |
Re blood pressure
I read in How Not to Die that hibiscus tea tea is great alternative to rx. |
Great read. I'm 1 cup daily drinker but quit once a year for Ramadan month. I struggle with headache for few days. |
It isn't pointless. While you may consume the same amount of caffeine in a day, the amount in your system at any one time will be lower--especially because caffeine in tea is released into your blood more slowly than caffeine in coffee. Draw an analogy to booze. Yes, it is totally possible to drink enough beers in a day to consume as much alcohol as you would drinking hard booze. But your blood alcohol level is unlikely to reach the same level as it would drinking shots. I know people who've gotten drunk on beer. I've known people to pass out from chugging beer. I've never heard of people dying from alcohol poisoning from drinking beer. The difference between coffee and tea is sort of like this. You can get as much caffeine in your system from tea as coffee if you drink 2-3 times as much tea as coffee in the same amount of time as you would have taken to drink your coffee. But as a practical matter, most people won't do this. It's sort of like spacing out your alcoholic drinks. If you consume three drinks over the course of three hours, you'll probably be considerably less drunk than if you consumed the same 3 drinks in one hour. The amount of caffeine in your system at any one time matters. |
This is my favorite tea. I like all Harney & Sons teas, but the hot cinnamon is the best. Such a strong flavor. |
I would rather die than give up coffee. |
Because it is poisonous. Chemicals in it from the de-caffing process. methylene chloride or ethyl acetate |
I've always preferred black tea, and don't actually like coffee. If you don't brew it too long, it will have less caffeine than coffee. If you want to quit caffeine altogether, tea, even white or green, is not an option.

It's not good for you at all. Caffeine is a toxin. However if the caffeine makes you get up and exercise more, then it will help free up fat in the liver and reduce fatty liver, but only when combined with vigorous exercise. |
What is your goal in giving up coffee? |
American coffee consumption contributes to water pollution, soil degradation, and reduced biodiversity. It makes sense to give up coffee for environmental reasons. |
