Is April 10 a school holiday?

Guys, they would just change the day that is a day off. If it moves, the 9th would be the day off and the 10th would become a school day. This isn’t rocket science.

Yes, but if teachers made appointments for the day off, that means they need to get a sub or change the appointments.

We scheduled many of our kids' appointments for days off so they don't miss school if it can be avoided.

… oh well??

I seriously doubt they can move the calendar. The point of the 3 year calendar was to make plans and if teachers planned around April 10, including field trips and if sports are planned around April 10 they can’t just change it.

Of course they can? Do people not realize this is essentially what happens when there is a snow day? Plans and appointments can can be changed.

And the day was moved/added a couple years ago…

So not only are we having off to respect this religion but if they change it we also have to change at the last minute. The entire region will have no sports matches April 10. So they change it and now they just move that to another day? Or schools plan a field trip for the 9th or 11th and then have to change it if the holiday moves? So now we aren’t planning for 1 day of this holiday but keeping the whole week open?

And snow days are hugely disruptive and result in multiple 10+ page threads every time they occur.

No, it's FCPS fault that they started closing for explicitly religious holidays.

They always did that, you just didn’t notice or mind because they were your culturally recognized holidays . You have never once gone to school on Christmas Day

Well, Christmas isn't a school holiday, so I guess you are just wrong. Winter Break covers it.

And schools would be so empty on Christmas, it wouldn't be worth going. I dare anyone to show massive absences on Eid.

So what? Disruptions happen. You have to deal.

If it moves, as sometimes happens, would it move forward or backward in the week?

The eclipse in the 8th and we're making travel plans but I'm not sure how much school the kids will miss.

I was planning a trip, but my kid has a big test that makes up like 50% of their grade that they would be missing.

You're planning bit travel for a Wednesday in the middle of a week with no other days off?

I am -- taking my 11th grader to see a couple of colleges in PA.

Will FCPS really move the day off??

Use attendance form to keep kid out of school due to illness. They will have to let you make up the test. Done.

Don't overthink it.

Yeah, my kid is not one interested in missing/having to make up tests. We'd rather just reschedule our trip if it's possible.

I called FCPS EERelations/Community help line. They did not think that FCPS would move the day off but transfered me to someone else who also didn't *think* it would get moved but transfered me to someone else who would know for sure and I had to leave a message.

No but I’m wondering since people seem to think it should happen.
