Exactly. So many schools have either ED or RD, and that's it. |
All these kids I know who applied to 10-20 schools start listing all of their acceptances to colleges they have no real interest in attending. |
3. One more due 1/15. Several EA already submitted. |
15-20 is the norm at my daughter’s school. And yes, so much work I feel like I haven’t seen her since July. |
DD finished her final 2 today |
Maybe so, but we wanted to ensure that we had options across a range of schools. |
But isn't it easier to narrow them down before submitting all those applications? We did visits last spring when she was a Junior and picked the school DD wanted to attend. |
Sure, it's easier. But anecdotes and data show a wide range of possibilities and there's simply no guarantee that your kid gets accepted where they "should". It's a bit of effort, but better than discovering that your target school is off the table in the spring. I'm other words, cast a wide net and be ready for whatever happens. |

The landscape has changed. With admission offers being less predicable, it’s much better to apply to a wide range of options. Some applicants don’t know where they have no interest in attending until they have the actual results before them. |
Submitted 3. Have done 9 so far.
Now getting ready for next deadline of 15th. Will do another 4 Wondering what more to consider for my DC who is 3.8 uw, 1550 SAT, okay ECs nothing spikey, and interest in CS.. Any safety suggestion? |
Better to put in a little extra effort so you have a variety of good choices. |
This is just telling us your kid isn't applying to top schools without saying it. (Top privates don't allow EAs at other privates so the max is one private along with publics that have EA rather than ED.) |
2 today. At least 2 more to go. This is painful. |
So what? Was the question about “top schools” or just applications and I missed it? Eyeroll. |
