Why not

Because it implies that was their first choice.

The rest now feels like a waste of time but we weren’t sure what would happen in this highly unpredictable college admit round to an UMC white male with great stats. The colleges are responsible for this madness with TO and their other vague criteria for entry with emphasis on other things besides meritocracy that only they know!!!

Did you at least withdraw those other 16 apps ?
Yes we had to per the ED agreement.

They can and do impose limits. These are private schools. They enforce it by not releasing transcripts to additional schools beyond the limit they set. Parents who don’t like it can choose to enroll their kids elsewhere, nobody is forcing them to attend these private schools. The limits can be beneficial, as the college counseling is very individualized and they take time to curate a realistic application list for each student. Students don’t need to apply to 20 schools just because that’s what fits in the Common App.

Well I guess it’s great your kid attends a school that only “allows” them to choose from 10 schools for their future.

[b]I'm sure the quality of the counseling is high at some of these private schools, [url]but I would be absolutely livid if my kid's school refused to release a transcript at our request. That level of control is about the school, not the student. There are legitimate reasons to apply to more than 10 schools. I can't believe that after spending all that money, parents are putting up with that.
You would be wrong…our private does virtually nothing but the bare minimum of coordinating and sending necessary paperwork-no true advising going on except for “pick a safety”.

My kid didn't get in SCEA, but if she had, she'd still be applying to other schools (though not as many as she is now). She has no idea where she wants to attend. Plan is to visit the schools that she is admitted to in March. I don't think kids are going through this essay-writing stress 'just to see.'
