How many apps is your child submitting today?

Anonymous
Last 3 submitted on Sunday and we went out for ice cream to celebrate. 8 total apps. Whew. My kid worked hard— spent too much time on essays, really, but I am proud of all the work he put in. No idea how it will all work out, but any college would be very lucky to have him.

I’ve lost count. I think it’s 4, in addition to 9 by Nov 1. Because we have no idea if the targets will accept.

What causes people like you behave in this manner?

We did 9 schools in Early Action deadline.

Submitted the final 2. Now we wait. Thinking of switching a deferral from EA to ED2, but really like the last 2 RDs. If ED2 came through, the last 2 RDs will be wasted efforts ... But all very slim long shots anyway. Glad to have a rolling admit already.

0, thankful ED was a yes.
She had submitted 2 rolling, 3 EA & 1 ED by Nov. 1.

Otherwise, would have had 4-5 more due now.
It will be over soon! Good luck!

Why is he applying to so many schools? Are they mostly reaches? So much work!

15-20 is the norm at my daughter’s school. And yes, so much work I feel like I haven’t seen her since July.

20 is the norm at our private.

what private? Some privates only allow 10.

19 applications submitted by December 1. Glad it’s over. Did not want this dragging into holiday season as we have been traveling to accepted schools.

How can your high school limit how many applications you submit?

Anonymous wrote:She finished hers on Tuesday. The real pain was the two months leading up to Nov 1 when she applied ED to an Ivy (deferred). In addition to that and Pitt (accepted), she added six more. It was pretty easy to adjust for the supplementals.

So glad that this is done. She left it all on the table.

Good luck to everyone!

Same for my kid, at a T10. But DC finished the rest 12/31. Taking a break before hitting the LOCI. Let these chips fall!

Our school doesn’t limit. Honestly how could they? Why would any parent allow that? Common app allows 20 and you can always apply directly with the school.

Oh come on. Not all schools have EA.

Exactly. So many schools have either ED or RD, and that's it.

This is just telling us your kid isn't applying to top schools without saying it. (Top privates don't allow EAs at other privates so the max is one private along with publics that have EA rather than ED.)

Super rude. You are telling people your kid didn’t get in ED. But we don’t care that your kid didn’t, and are just here wishing each other the best. Good luck to your DC! Good luck to all these hard working kids!

They can and do impose limits. These are private schools. They enforce it by not releasing transcripts to additional schools beyond the limit they set. Parents who don’t like it can choose to enroll their kids elsewhere, nobody is forcing them to attend these private schools. The limits can be beneficial, as the college counseling is very individualized and they take time to curate a realistic application list for each student. Students don’t need to apply to 20 schools just because that’s what fits in the Common App.

Well I guess it’s great your kid attends a school that only “allows” them to choose from 10 schools for their future.
